FigureFocus 311 Yowies Lost Kingdom Imperial Ammonite

Let's take a quick look at an early ammonite toy, the Imperial Ammonite from Yowies Lost Kingdom Series B (I did a Run-The-Set that earlier). Don't need to say much about it, but it is a neat little figure. It's hard to fathom just how big some of these mollusks could be--as it was labelled as the Imperial Ammonite Tropaeum imperator, the scale is about 1:39, so pretty close to the diver. The first thing that can be noted is…

FigureFrenzy 297 River dolphin, Komodo dragon, Coral snake, Mekosuchine

Another very random foursome. Really, really random--mostly reptiles though, by accident. But a good assortment! Safari Ltd South American Animals toob Amazon River Dolphin A fairly recent one, an Amazon River Dolphin from a Safari toob. Great to see one as a widely available figure. It's about 1:35 so the diver might be a little small, but close. First up, an Amazon River Dolphin figure from the 2021 Amazon River animals toob from Safari. This toob, number 100684, is a…

Vault Tales 258 FigureFrenzy Axolotl, Barracuda, Lemur, Diplocaulus, Torpedo Ray

Another day, another very random bunch of figures. Again, a pretty broad range of animals and companies. Kaiyodo Takara ChocoQ Animatales Pets Axolotl A lovely little Axolotl figure. It's about 1:4 scale, so it would be a giant compared to The Doctor there. Or she is very, very tiny. Here we have another excellent figure from the Kaiyodo Takara ChocoQ Animatales Pets series. This one is from series 4, so it was after the split between Kaiyodo and the original…

Vault Tales 255 FigureFrenzy Betta, Capybara, Catfish, Wiwaxia, Mammoth+Smilodon

Another FigureFrenzy! And it's going to be very random...all over the place, really. Little of everything. Although they're all small, and all part of larger sets so...unifying features? Marmit World of Tropical Fish Betta A very familiar pet fish, a Betta or Siamese Fighting Fish in what might be the most unusual possible colour...a pearlescent white with a red lateral line? I'm not even sure if this is a real pattern. A more characteristic blue or red would have made…

Vault Tales 245 FigureFrenzy Sea Cucumber, Sea Star, Pipefish, Garden eels, Goby

It's been a while since I did a random figure frenzy, but here we are! Five figures from varying companies, of varying quality. And all represent marine animals (although I don't think they coexist...) FUL (Nayab?) Sea Cucumbers large & small A couple of Sea Cucumber figures from ta set of small and large marine figures. Let's be honest, not a particularly common animal figure...similar in size, about 1:5 and 1: 4 scale First up, a pair of weird little…

Vault Tales 219 FigureFrenzy Cockatoo, Coyote, Eel, Goblin shark, Wakaleo

Back to a randomized figure frenzy. And this one is very, very random! A lot of these will also be pretty quick...sometimes there just isn't much to say... Safari Ltd toob Sulfur-Crested Cockatoo The same Sulfur-crested Cockatoo figure from two different toobs; the one on the left was purchased more recently...but the figure on the right is much more detailed! The figures are about 1:5 scale, so a bit big for Ray there, but it looks about right First up…

Vault Tales 208 Run the Set Yowies Lost Kingdom B

So I am doing another set, and this time it is the figures that I have from the Yowies Lost Kingdom B series. Released in the early 2000s, there were 30 models in total, I believe all based on fossil material subfossil material from Australia or New Zealand (just like series A). Unlike some of the Yowies series that I looked at before, I have a better representation of this one, with 15 out of the 30 figures. Most were…

Vault Tales 203 FigureFrenzy Wrasse, Moorish idol, Acanthodiian, Nurse shark, Mammalodon

Going with an aquatic theme today! Mostly a variety of fish, and then one prehistoric mammal as well! Bunch of interesting animals though. Let's take a look! Colorata Coral Reef Fish Humphead Wrasse & Moorish Idol Two excellent fish figures from Colorata. On the left, a Humphead Wrasse. In the centre, a Moorish Idol. Although not always true, in this instance the two figures from the same box are about the same scale, 1:6,. The diver is actually a bit…

Vault Tales 195 FigureFrenzy Barylambda, Glyptodon, Cassowary, Quetzal, Baobab

Well here's a range of figures from all kinds of companies featuring all kinds of species...even a tree! Who would have thought!? Lido Nabisco Barylambda This is an old figure, but I don't think there are even other Pantodont figures! So it's great to have this Barylambda, about 1:62 scale so the explorer is a bit short. First up, a figure from the 60s, back when cereal came with awesome toys! Possibly more famous for their dinosaurs series, Lido was…

Vault Tales 183 Run the Set Yowies Australia Series 1

Going to look at another set today--the first series of Australian Yowies! It was a big set, with 50 figures (not counting variants) but I have managed to get a number of them. Let's take a quick look! I did discuss one of the figures in detail once before, the Northern Mastiff Bat, and visited the Knob-tailed gecko in a trio recently, but now we'll see the rest. All of the birds from the series that I have--plus a bat…

Vault Tales 173 ToyTrio Hammerhead Shark, Manta Ray, Knob-tail Gecko

Starting the year with what might be described as...very random figures. Most of which are, at best, okay. But they're all part of larger sets so there's that. Let's get to it. Safari Ltd Endangered Species-Marine toob Great Hammerhead Shark Possibly one of the most popular shark species to be made as a figure, a hammerhead shark! It's pretty hard to mistake for anything else at least! First up, we have a Great Hammerhead shark toob figure from Safari Ltd.…

Vault Tales 171 ToyTrio Giant Kangaroo, Giant Cheetah, Woolly Mammoth

A new ToyTrion featuring three small figures of notable very large animals, all mammals this time! All extinct, and all with presence in the Pleistocene...Let's see what we have. Yowies Lost Kingdom Giant Short-faced Kangaroo Weird proportions and a short face on a kangaroo? It must be Procoptodon goliah, the giant short-faced kangaroo This first figure is an example of why the original Yowies Australia figures were so great. For the first two series, especially Lost Kingdoms A, they tried…
