FigureFocus 309 Shapeways 3D Printed Diplocaulus

Well, let's go back to a prehistoric animal, and a 3D-printed one no less. This is another Shapeways model, from creator mmfrankford. The specific model is their take on Diplocaulus, the famous and popular boomerang-head 'amphibian' from the late Palaeozoic. At about 1:10 scale, this Diplocaulus is to scale with Ray. Maybe if they had stuck to these guys in the park, Ray would have kept his arm. Also, Diplocaulus (at maximum size) was larger than I would have imagined!…

FigureFrenzy 300 Allosaurus, Anteater, Pantylus, Penguin

Been a bit distracted lately, but catching right back up...once again, with a very random assortment. Very. Broad range of quality, style, and taxonomy. Jurassic World FK mini Allosaurus (Walmart) Revisiting an almost monochrome figure from the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom minis. This time it's the Allosaurus. A very gaunt, skinny dino. It's about 1:85 scale, so the explorer is pretty close. So we'll start with another mini figure from the Walmart Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom multi-pack (a few others can…

Vault Tales 218 Shapeways 1:20 Champsosaurus

So today is going to be a bit of a set, and at the same time a review of a single figure. Because it's only available that way (like getting multiple copies of the same figure, maybe in different poses...like this Eryops) . But this time, it's a variety of Champsosaurus from Shapeways, at 1:20 scale! The first two poses. The figures are a bit skinny looking, and very terrestrial. It would have been nice if even one was depicted…

Vault Tales 186 FigureFrenzy Crappie, Hemicyclapsis, Stingray, Botia, Manta

Is it another Figure Frenzy? It is! Another 5 figures (some with a few versions) all of the fish variety! It feels like it's been so long since I visited some fish figures. Replica Toy Fish Crappie Such a Crappie fish figure! But seriously...that's what it's called. The figure is apparently 1:7 scale, so a little big for The Doctor but maybe it's a really big one! First up, we have a Crappie figure from Replica Toy Fish, which I've…

Vault Tales 137 Shapeways Edaphosaurus

It probably doesn't help that the figure is a single solid colour, but the face is actually pretty detailed. Here we are again, with a second Edaphosaurus in as many weeks. This time it is a 3D printed model from Shapeways, designed by creator GNModels, AKA Galileo Hernandez. I recognized the name as a sculptor that had created non-3D print model kits for some people, but I am not much for building; the opportunity to get some of his models…

Vault Tales 93 Shapeways Kosmoceratops

A highly detailed 3D printing For this post we're going to look at another figure produced through Shapeways. This time it is a Kosmoceratops sculpted by noted artist David Krentz. I don't know if he has added more, but for a while he was putting up small 1:72 dinosaur models, and since no one at the time was making one, I decided to add this species to the collection that way! I purchased mine in 2011 and it can still…

Vault tales 61 Shapeways Hyneria

Who makes it? Like previous 3D figures, this is a printed Shapeways model. This one is also by Prehistoric Creature Shop (I do have figures from others, they just haven't come up yet) like the earlier Odontochelys. When did it come out? I would have purchased it in early 2012, but it was probably on the site before then. Still available? I checked, and yes it's still on the site. That's the nice thing about Shapeways and other 3D printing--as…

Vault Tales 45 Shapeways 3D Paddlefish

Who makes it? Printed on the Shapeways site. I don't know where the file was made When did it come out? I've had it a few years, but I don't know how long. It's a creator test print--which is cheaper but rougher. Hence the thick texture on this side Still available? Depends if the file is still out there. Where can it be found in my displays? With so many other odd and interesting fish figures. That describes about 15…

Vault tales #18 Shapeways Odonotochelys

Who makes it? It is a 3D printed model from Shapeways, the creator goes by the name Prehistoric Creatures Shop. It's a very fitting name. When did it come out? I received it 2011. But I believe the file went up earlier than that. Here it is...stark white against a reef background. Still available? As long as the file is available, and there are 3D printers, yes Where can it be found in my displays? I have a shelf full…
