FigureFocus 302 Neko Works Hybodus

Quick look* at a nifty shark figure today--the prehistoric shark Hybodus made by Neko Works for their "Shark Attack" series. These are single piece models available in Japan only (I think) as unpainted white resin figures. This mean lots of great detail, and also lots of pointy bits. And they are certainly not toys as they can be fairly fragile. The unpainted Hybodus in its complete form. A few molding bits to clean up I suppose. Also note that central…

FigureFocus 275 PNSO Haylee the Helicoprion

Due to recent events, I'm going to make this a quick single-figure post. In this case (in case the title didn't give it away) it will be a somewhat recent 'shark' figure from PNSO, Haylee the Helicoprion, number 43 in their Prehistoric Animal Models series. It's hard to believe that there's already so many in this line. Anyway, of the figures released in 2021, definitely one of my favorites. And a great example of what this company is up to!…

Vault Tales 269 FigureFrenzy Pachycephalosaurus, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Mawsonia, Cycad

Well, thanks to the ol' Random Number Generator, I ended up with figures that will all be presented in some kind of pair (one because, well, I am making it one...you'll see). So we will see a couple of mediocre Mattel figures, and then some far more interesting ones. All prehistoric today though! Hasbro Jurassic World mini Pachycephalosaurus (pair) A couple of small Pachycephalosaurus in different colours. They are fine. Just fine. About 1:55 scale, more or less in scale…

Vault Tales 268 FigureFrenzy Ichthyosaurus, Opabinia, Ammonite, Stethacanthus

All prehistoric! All aquatic! All kinds of different taxonomic groups. And wildly diffefrent companies. Just a small glimpse of the range of figures I have I guess. Dinotales Series 2 Ichthyosaurus More Dinotales figures! This time a classic prehistoric animal, Ichthyosaurus! And a really great representation of the animal. It's about 1:38 scale so the diver is way too small. We'll start with a figure from a series that, of course, I've looked at many times before, from Kaiyodo Dinotales…

Vault Tales 259 Safari Ltd WS Prehistoric World Dunkleosteus

Today I'm going to just look at a single figure, one which really showed a change in the game for the Safari prehistoric figures. This is of course the Dunkleosteus, number 283329. It was released in 2007 (in what was then the Wild Safari Dinos & Prehistoric Life series), and continues to be available today. In all of its profile glory, the Safari Dunkleosteus. The bold golds and browns continue to be very striking colours. And not the gold eyes--signs…

Vault Tales 244 Run the Set OUMCRAFT ‘Life’ Game figures part 3

Way back in April of 2021, I received a package from Thailand featuring a number of prehistoric animal models meant to be used with the Life game by designer Oumcraft. I detailed the figures I received in that package in two parts; the first featured the Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian animals; the follow up looked at the Devonian age fish that I received. I had mentioned then, that I only received some of the figures, as others were still being…

Vault Tales 240 Run the Set CollectA Prehistoric Marine Animals MiniBox

Staying with the sets, although this is the first one in some time that isn't Japanese! It's a more recent one from CollectA, the Prehistoric Marine mini box. CollectA item number A1104, it was released in 2017. The only figures that were already part of the CollectA prehistoric figures lines. On the left, the only widely available), in the centre a Temnodontosaurus, and on the right, a small Dunkleosteus It was super exciting when CollectA first announced they would release…

Vault Tales 232 Run the Set Kaiyodo UHA Chocolasaurs Dinotales Series 1 PART 2

Part 2 - Palaeozoic and Cenozoic Figures! And we're back with Part 2, featuring the best Palaeozoic and Cenozoic figures the Dinotales Series 1 had to offer (not really a surprise if you've looked at the banner)! Another nine figures, after the 15 from the first part. In case you missed it, the first post featuring the dinosaurs and other Mesozoic animals can be found here. There are some really cool ones in this lot though. Let's go from geologically…

Vault Tales 231 Run the Set Kaiyodo UHA Chocolasaurs Dinotales Series 1 PART 1

Part 1 - The Mesozoic Figures! That's right--as the title suggests, I am going to be looking at the full run of the Series 1 Dinotales line, the one that started it all! I have looked at various individual Dinotales figures before of course, but I don't think I tackled a full complete set. And it turns out, with at least 25 figures that gets a little daunting. Because unlike some sets, Dinotales deserve at least a little more time…

Vault Tales 221 FigureFrenzy Rutiodon, Helicoprion, Reef shark, Jackal, Postosuchus

Back to some random figures, but as a group, ones that I am overall pretty fond of! I think you'll agree that they're all collection worthy for various reasons. ActionProducts I-Dig-Sharks Helicoprion The position of the tooth whorl kind of gives away the age of the figure, although it might have just been wrong! The figure is roughly 1:120, so the diver is too big (or it's a small Helicoprion) First up, a strange, short-lived figure from a company known…

Vault Tales 213 FigureFrenzy Lionfish, Bamboo shark, Wobbegong, Axelrodichthys

We're going all fish today! Cool fish! Extinct lobefins! Weird sharks! Oddly...all sharks are carpet sharks. Short introduction. It's a great bunch of figures so let's go! FameMaster 4D Puzzle Lionfish Starting with a very fancy puzzle, a FameMaster Red Lionfish. It's about 1:4 scale, so I don't really have much to scale with it. It would go very well as a near life-size aquarium diorama fixture (but I don't think it would do well in water. I have spoken…

Vault Tales 206 Run the Set OUMCRAFT ‘Life’ Game figures part 2

Only a couple days ago, I wrote about the first Oumcraft models I received in conjunction with my Life game from Kickstarter. Those ones focused on the Silurian and Devonian figures, including a number of acanthodians, conodonts, agnathans and early vertebrates. This time around, I will show the figures from the Devonian stage of the game (although there are a number of Carboniferous taxa as well--that particular age does not have a round in the game). There are quite a…
