FigureFrenzy 296 Acrocanthosaurus, Redfin, Sea Lion, Wolverine

We're going all over the place today! The only thing that unites them is that I have them all...let's go! Nayab/FUL/Lontic Sea Lions It's a trio of Sea Lion figures. The two small ones are from the same set, and could be two different sea lion species (California sea lion and Steller's sea lion) while the big one is more clearly a Steller's sea lion. Or, the brown one might be a female? The big one is about 1:58, so…

Vault Tales 274 FigureFrenzy Conger eel, Andrewsarchus, Thylacine, Quetzalcoatlus

More variety--living, recently extinct, and prehistoric. The only thing that unites them is that they're in my collection! And all of them are pretty great. Yujin Primary Seawater Fish Book 2 Japanese Conger Eel An unusual species as a figure, a Japanese Conger eel. One of the first eel figures I got from Japan. It's tricky to get the figure size, but it's roughly 1:9, so Ray is pretty much to scale. The only fish today! A pretty decent one,…

Vault Tales 261 MojoFUN Megacerops (Brontotherium)

Today, looking at a figure of one of my personal favorite prehistoric mammals, Megacerops. This particular one is the figure made by MojoFUN in 2013, number 387155, part of their Mojo Prehistoric series. It was released--and is still listed--as Brontotherium, which is considered synonymous with Megacerops. Whatever the name, I recall being very excited for this one, as brontotheres were one of those animals that I used to find as fossils, but until around then, figures were pretty sporadic. Of…

Vault Tales 207 FigureFrenzy Hyena, Dodo, Cynognathus, African wild dog, Arsinoitherium

So here's a random assortment of mostly mammals (and adjacent) figures. And one extinct bird, just to mix it up. Most of them are pretty good too! Schleich Spotted hyena (2015 release) The most recent of Schleich's several versions of a Spotted hyena. And probably their best version, although still heavily stylized. The figure is roughly 1:18 depending on it's gender (which is indeterminate) Let's start with a figure that represents one of my favorite animals (mammal edition), a Spotted…

Vault tales 200 – Clades – Pancarnivora

So here I am, with post number 200! That seems crazy! And for this one, I get to look at a clade that I find pretty interesting, and which until recently didn't have a whole lot of representative figures! I am referring to the stem group of the clade Pancarnivora, a group that includes all of our modern Carnivora (cats, hyenas, mongoose, dogs, bears, etc) plus their sister group, often referred to collectively as Creodonta. I think this is still…

Vault Tales 133 ToyTrio Andalusian, Mapusaurus, Utahraptor

Another ToyTrio, and another pretty random assortment! MojoFun Andalusian stallion I don't have many horses. And really, this one is only in the collection by accident I believe that this might be the first horse I've looked at on this blog. As I've said before, I don't really have much to do with farm/domestic animals, and have never gone too far into horse collecting--from what I can tell, that may be the largest subset of animal collecting there is (even…

Vault Tales 118 ToyTrio Nimravid, Iberian Lynx, Ichthyosaur

Time for another Toy Trio, a model I use to look quickly at a few figures that were picked by the Random Number Generator, but might not warrant a full on post on their own. It's also a chance to work through the list a little faster...I'm not going to run through it anytime soon, but there's lots to get to! Mech (?) "smilodon"/Nimravid This is not a high quality figure...and despite the label, there's no way that is Smilodon…
