FigureFocus 301 CollectA Elasmosaurus

I'm going to take a quick look at one of my more recent figures today, and easily one of my hidden favorites--the recent CollectA Elasmosaurus from their standard figures line. It may be from the 'standard' or popular series, but it has the quality of a deluxe to me. The figure was released in summer 2021, so very recent, as number 88922. Some wide shots of the figure. It's pretty long, so it's hard to fit into a picture. But…

Vault Tales 273 FigureFrenzy Marmot, Velociraptor, Giant cheetah, Wild ass

Another very random batch. Minis. Metals. Mammals. Just more randomness. Schleich Minis Marmot A very small rodent, an Alpine Marmot. Great to have a very small rodent figure, they tend to fit better with larger figures. Depending on the size of the real animal used, this figure varies from 1:15 to 1:24 scale. Finn would be close for 1:15 or; the figure would fit well with many current modern animal models at 1:24 We're going to start small, with this…

Vault Tales 267 FigureFrenzy Smilodon, Alphadon, Macrauchenia, Hyena

Time to look at a random group of mammal figures. Most are prehistoric, and one is just really old! Old as in, the figure is relatively old (early half of 19th century) as opposed to representing really old animals...that were made more recently (in every case, really recently--like last 10 years recent). Anyway, let's get to them! CollectA Prehistoric Mammals MiniBox Smilodon A very small Smilodon, similar to the larger model but simpler. It's around 1:35 in scale, so close…

Vault Tales 262 CollectA Dimetrodon

Another look at another great figure! This time, we're going to a relative of the mammals from the Permian. This is a sort of recent one, the CollectA Dimetrodon from their Deluxe 1:20 collection. Released in 2018 as item number 88822. As has become a bit of an industry standard, this figure of course includes some articulation, in this case the jaw opens and closes. Not super exciting, but that seems to be something we are seeing on a lot…

Vault Tales 240 Run the Set CollectA Prehistoric Marine Animals MiniBox

Staying with the sets, although this is the first one in some time that isn't Japanese! It's a more recent one from CollectA, the Prehistoric Marine mini box. CollectA item number A1104, it was released in 2017. The only figures that were already part of the CollectA prehistoric figures lines. On the left, the only widely available), in the centre a Temnodontosaurus, and on the right, a small Dunkleosteus It was super exciting when CollectA first announced they would release…

Vault Tales 210 FigureFrenzy Anaconda, Salamander, Eryops, Stagonolepis

We've got four figures today, which can best be regarded as...united by being 'herpetiles', a broad informal word usually meant to refer to 'reptiles' and 'amphibians'. Which are themselves kind of informal but anyway...there's a whole bunch of animals that really aren't connected by much. Other than they're all really nice figures in different ways. CollectA Green Anaconda Easily one of the most active and dynamic Green Anaconda figures. It's tricky to know the scale due to the many curls…

Vault Tales 201 FigureFrenzy Apatosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Saurosuchus, Concavenator, Belemnites

Another bunch of figures today, all prehistoric ones! And a wide range of them...the funny part is that the largest figure is the smallest (and the only not-reptile!) And a strange assortment of brands and styles! CollectA MiniBox A1102 Apatosaurus One of those classic dinosaur figures, this was the first Apatosaurus made by CollectA for their mini box sets. It's about 1:192, so that man is way too large (it's all I have!). First up we have one of the…

Vault Tales 195 FigureFrenzy Barylambda, Glyptodon, Cassowary, Quetzal, Baobab

Well here's a range of figures from all kinds of companies featuring all kinds of species...even a tree! Who would have thought!? Lido Nabisco Barylambda This is an old figure, but I don't think there are even other Pantodont figures! So it's great to have this Barylambda, about 1:62 scale so the explorer is a bit short. First up, a figure from the 60s, back when cereal came with awesome toys! Possibly more famous for their dinosaurs series, Lido was…

Vault Tales 192 FigureFrenzy Bawitius, Therizinosaurus, Rhomalaeosaurus, Coelodonta

Prehistoric Figure Frenzy! A whole bunch of different species...three from some of my . Plus, one really unique one, a plush prehistoric polypterid! Let's take a look. Spirellity Bawitius plush key chain The only Bawitius model that was available for general sale. As a key ring (the ring has since been removed). It's about 1:23 scale, so pretty close to Freddy there. That's a big bichir! So I'm just going to start with this one! It's a small plush printed…

Vault Tales 187 FigureFrenzy Nasutoceratops, Uintatherium, Dunkleosteus, Smilodon

New Figure Frenzy, with a bunch of larger figures! Interestingly, we're going to hit the three geologic eras (and the kind of fourth, based on the original breakdown into four). But I'm not going to do them in geologic order since...I just am not. Three of them are excellent models from excellent companies. One of them is a well known animal that is frequently made but can be generously described as 'okay', from a company that can be described as...okay…

Vault Tales 168 CollectA Deluxe Carcharodontosaurus

Keeping with this week's incidental them of prehistoric CollectA figures, today we have one of the big deluxe dinosaurs. Specifically, the 2014-released Carcharodontosaurus, item number 88642. This is a big figure, which is fitting given that Carcharodontosaurus was a big predator of Cretaceous North Africa (possibly longer than the might T. rex!) and really makes sense as a deluxe figure from CollectA. It is an impressive figure on the shelf, standing out well against the myriad of other big dinos…

Vault Tales 167 CollectA Smilodon

Here we have today's VaultTale, just a single figure--the standard-collection Smilodon figure from CollectA. This figure was the second Smilodon released by CollectA for their standard collection, in 2015 as item number 88715. The previous model, available from 2009-2016, was...a much weaker figure (I had it once, but no longer). As far as prehistoric mammals go, Smilodon is a near given, alongside mammoths and...okay, that's about it. CollectA has actually been pretty consistent about giving us a range of Cenozoic…
