FigureFocus 314 Play Visions Striped Hyena

Here's one of those figures that I was very excited to get when they first came out, and I still have a lot of them from those days! I am speaking of the Play Visions Striped Hyena figure, one of eight figures in the Wild Dogs bin figures series. And yes, first off--it isn't a dog, wild or otherwise. It's a hyena--and would have been more appropriate with the Civets and Mongoose series but they made their choice. At least…

FigureFocus 304 Play Visions Ring-Tailed Vontsira

Time to look at a small figure from a great little set, a figure from the Play Visions "Civets & Mongooses" set . I looked at a figure from this set once before, the so-called Binturong that is more likely an Asian palm civet. This is another figure that is very nicely made, but clearly stamped with a less informative name (but at least technically 'right'). The figure is marked as a 'Ring-tailed Mongoose', but better referred to as a…

FigureFrenzy 296 Acrocanthosaurus, Redfin, Sea Lion, Wolverine

We're going all over the place today! The only thing that unites them is that I have them all...let's go! Nayab/FUL/Lontic Sea Lions It's a trio of Sea Lion figures. The two small ones are from the same set, and could be two different sea lion species (California sea lion and Steller's sea lion) while the big one is more clearly a Steller's sea lion. Or, the brown one might be a female? The big one is about 1:58, so…

FigureFrenzy 295 Aye-Aye, Beipiaosaurus, Chuckwalla, Lobsters

We're just going all over the place this time. Kind of a little of this, a little of that. Sometimes things are really, really random! Nayab/FUL/Lontic Lobsters and Spiny Lobster A few marine crustaceans from Nayab (or whatever). Two different sizes of Spiny Lobster and a more conventional Lobster. It's difficult to estimate scales, but the lobster is maybe around 1:4 so the diver is too small for that, but of course these animals come in many sizes I'm going…

FigureFrenzy 294 Megalosaurus, Amargasaurus, Moeritherium, Woolly Rhino

It's all prehistoric megafauna today! From the Jurassic to the Pleistocene. As far as the figures, well...one if them is really nice. One of them is very okay. Two of them are very basic but ones that are probably pretty easy to get! Wild Republic/Imperial/random 'Megalosaurus' Lots of versions of the same figure...probably based on Megalosaurus toys and paintings from some time ago. Using height, probably around 1:92, so the explorer is close in scale. Our first figure is actually…

FigureFrenzy 293 Pike, Salmon, Reef shark, White shark

It's been a while, but we're going all fish today! A couple of sharks, and a couple of freshwater fish, both Protacanthopterygiians (and also both from Replica Toy Fish). Overall a good day for fish. FameMaster Great White Shark A pretty decent Great White Shark model for a 3D model puzzle. Too bad the seams are so obvious. The diver is about 1:72, so it can work for the figure. We're going to start with the biggest fish (although not…

FigureFrenzy 281 Llama, Butterflyfish, Basilisk, Olm

It's going to be all living animals today! No extinction here! Hopefully! And a pretty broad taxonomic range too! Safari Ltd Pets Toob Llama It's a LLAMA an in an interesting pose. About 1:30 scale, so close to the zoo guy there. Let's start with the mammal, a Llama from the Safari Pets toob, item 683704. I don't have a ton to say about it--other than it's a pretty decent figure. The pose is kind of interesting, probably chosen as…

Vault Tales 270 FigureFrenzy Binturong, Macaw, Beaded lizard, Fire salamander

Quick look at some figures of modern animals, in the usual wide range of types and quality...a few of them are great. A few of them...are definitely figures. Of tetrapods. You'll see. Play Visions Binturong (?) A great figure of...some kind of viverrid. It is roughly 1;11 scale, so close to scale with Finn. Depends on the animal it might actually be. So, first off, a figure that I am so glad to have! A mystery figure of sorts...this is…

Vault Tales 224 FigureFrenzy Badger, Gharial, Water bug, Black bear, Snapping turtle

Back to another very random bunch of figures. Not sure if there is any particular way I can connect them...perhaps, all of them are living animals that could theoretically cause some kind of harm to people that aren't paying attention? Whatever connects them (it was random) they're all pretty decent models though! Play Visions American Badger A classic figure from a great series--the American badger from Play Visions. As with most PV figures, it is fairly small, about 1:13, close…

Vault Tales 157 ToyTrio Glyphoderma, Nothosaurus, more Nothosaurs!

So today will be all Triassic marine reptiles! And all are relatively small figures, in the tube-size range or so. Some great ones, some...not really. But it's not a common type of figure, so still great to have! Bin Figure Nothosaurs Normally I would do just one figure, but they're pretty much the same. Just different colours. Scale is difficult to gauge--somewhere between 1:60 to 1:70, depending on what species of nothosaur you decide these are! I'll start with what…

Vault tales 59 Play Visions Elasmosaurus

Who makes it? Play Visions, as part of their classic Prehistoric Marine Reptiles series. The elasmosaur is number 6 if you're curious. When did it come out? The figure is stamped 1998 so...1998? The Play Visions Elasmosaurus, just swanning around...yes, it is based on older imagery. Still available? As with other excellent marine reptile sets, this one is discontinued. It has been for some time now. It has been for some time now--and is still highly sought after. Where can…

Vault tales 33 Ausini Chevrotain

Who makes it? Once again the Random Number Generator seems...less random. Like the Wild Boar from a weeks ago this is a figure from the Ausini wild animals set. Like the rest of the set, nothing is labelled or identified by the company. My best guess is chevrotain (mouse deer)--it's a pointy-nosed hoofed animal that appears to represent a small mammal, but no antlers (otherwise mutjac might have been considered). A tiny little artiodactyl figure. Canines aren't visible...maybe it's a…
