Who makes it? This is a classic figure from Marx! When did it come out? I'm not really sure when this particular one came out, but it was produced from about 1955 to the 1970s. A classic monochrome plastic figure! Still available? Not the original figures, but I think it sometimes gets recast (officially or unofficially) for other later sets. Where can it be found in my displays? On a shelf filled with all kinds of non-dinosaur reptiles. It's among…
HAPPY NEW YEAR! First off, I'd like to thank anyone that reads these for sticking with me into a new year! So let's open it with a fish. Of course. Who makes it? A friend through a collecting forum made the file for me--and it was printed at the university where I work! Then I painted it. When did it come out? Well, I've had the file for a year...and it was printed in the summer. And I painted it…
Who makes it? Sold by a company called Tedco, made by a company called COG Ltd, in their Dino Horizons line, as part of a series called Prehistoric Panorama...this Arsinoitherium was one of 6 mammals in the Prehistoric Mammals set (which was one of the 6 series made) When did it come out? These were first released in 2008. 4 out of 6 from each set was later released by COG in a blind bag line called Prehistoric Creatures. It's…
Who makes it? This is a classic from Safari Ltd, part of the small Tennessee Aquarium salamanders set. This one is item number 2104. When did it come out? Apparently 1995! Still available? Sadly, no. The whole series ended in the early 2000s or so, but could still be found into the mid-2000s. Good luck finding them in their original forms, although the moulds of a few of the species found new life as generic salamander or glow-in-the-dark figures by…
Who makes it? Of the many properties that Bandai has had licensing deals with--it's a figure made in conjunction with the Japanese game (card? video? both?) Animal Kaiser--part of the Bigger Beast Series 1, number 8. I think. Kind of like the Playmates Dinosaur King figures. When did it come out? I honestly don't know. Last 10 years or so is my best guess. I'll say it now, the figure was hard to photograph and get the colours. Still available?…
Who makes it? The second Kaiyodo aquatic figure in a week!? But this is from a very different set--it is more current, and part of what Kaiydo now refers to as their CapsuleQ Museum series--Series 7, Yaeyama, number 052 in the set. These particular series were produced referencing regions of Japan. Just a little figure, but so much motion is visible When did it come out? This particular series came out in 2014. They were available as capsule prizes (gashapon).…
Who makes it? Kaiyodo, as part of their Glico Aquatales Series 2. Number 22 in that particular set...there are so many different sets under different names and releases... When did it come out? The set first came out in 2003. But it may have been re-released later. From the side, it's a colorful but seemingly regular fish. Still available? Not usually, except in the usual after market sources. Where can it be found in my displays? In and among many…
Who makes it? This is one of many Mattel products tied in to the Jurassic World--Fallen Kingdom movie. This Stegosaurus is one of the figures in the Walmart bulk bag. When did it come out? Around the time of the movie, 2018 The figure in its green glory Still available? As of this writing I think so. It's hard to say if it varies depending on region. Where can it be found in my displays? It's not. There were some…
Who makes it? This is from the last series of original Yowies figures from Australia, the Series 9, Forgotten Friends B. The Aurochs is number 29 in the set. When did it come out? I can't find the exact year, but I think it was about 2002 or so. It wasn't out for very long. The Aurochs! A much scarier version of our modern cows. Still available? Only from other collectors and auctions. And since the series was only available…
Who makes it? Colorata as part of their Ueno Zoo Endangered animals box. It's number 12 in the set. When did it come out? The box was originally released in 2004. It's a surprisingly hefty looking figure. It's a good representation of the real animal. Still available? From what I understand, the set is still available at the Ueno Zoo in Japan. Unlike most of their sets, this one is not listed on the Colorata site, so it may be…
Who makes it? Like previous 3D figures, this is a printed Shapeways model. This one is also by Prehistoric Creature Shop (I do have figures from others, they just haven't come up yet) like the earlier Odontochelys. When did it come out? I would have purchased it in early 2012, but it was probably on the site before then. Still available? I checked, and yes it's still on the site. That's the nice thing about Shapeways and other 3D printing--as…
What's going on here? Well, some figures don't really need a full review. Especially small bin or toob sets. And yes, I have discussed individual small figures from sets before but it can't hurt to shake things up a bit. So for this one, and others in the future (should have done it for the Safari Dino Skulls toob one, for example, instead of just one figure). But I'll get to shake it up a bit, and do lots of…
