Interesting trends early on. Notice how farm animals, horses, and dogs are getting practically zero votes. When reptiles, invertebrates, and (sometimes) non-shark fish are options, they often dominate.

These companies should really learn from these trends...

I would think this reflects the majority of collectors here compared to buyers for children or for many 'specialized' adult collectors, who tend towards the familiar (dogs, horses) or the safe option (can't go wrong with sheep after all).

But in terms of best, I don't think even kids would claim that their cows or chickens are their best animals.

This is what makes the poll(s) so interesting for me and which is why I hope many members vote. :) I'd really like to see a representative result. If many members vote and the more "obscure" animals still dominate they are probably just too rarely made. But, yes, I would not be too surprised if we see at least a partial shift towards mammalian figures when more people vote. From what the current votes show, quality seems to have a great influence, too. And most of us would probably appreciate the high quality of a figure even if it doesn't represent an animal we were looking for.

The list of 2014 releases is a fantastic reference. Thank you for all the hard work, brontodocus.

I found it difficult to choose between artistic quality and uniqueness of species.
Bmathison1972, your suggestion was helpful that our votes should influence the selection of animals produced by toy companies.

We never talked about how long the semi finals would be open. Maybe we should set a date so everyone knows by when the votes have to be placed? :)

Shall we say the end of the month?

Just to say I haven't forgotten about this, I'm just incredibly busy recently.  O:-)

I have finally set up the grand final poll at the top of this thread. The options include the top-rated three (or fewer) figures from each semi-final poll. Where there were ties for third place resulting in more than three top-rated figures, those figures were excluded from the grand final. Happy voting! I'll update the first post of this thread with images of the finalists, to make it easier!

Edit - Ah, scrap the idea of adding the images in - I thought it would be a simple copy-paste job but some images aren't even in the separate semi-poll threads (Mojo Fun, anyway). Ideally, whomever creates the 'new for' thread should be responsible for updating the first post with images - community spirit and all that. It is just too much work otherwise - no time. At least the poll is live though!  C:-)

My favorites did not make it to the list :(

So you have to pick your favourites from the shortlist. :)

Looks like my vote to the Snow Leopard by Papo decided the winner of the year!  ;D

It isodd that the pollwas never closed--over a year ago!

BlueKrono

I seriously think the Kitan Club leopard seal was the best of the year. Like, I would get that tattooed on me.
I like turtles.

A brilliant figure indeed and for me this one was the main reason to get the Nankyoku set. :) Urgh, and you remind us that we never finished with this poll... :-[

BlueKrono

Yes, it seems my other votes caused a fourway tie for second place...
I like turtles.
