Might as well start a thread for Kaiyodo.

Looks like in May they are doing another caterpillar set, with a scarabaeoid larva too. Species appear to be:

Papilio machaon
Papilio protenor
Stauropus fagi
Cystidia truncangulata
Theretra oldenlandiae
Dorcus hopei binodulosus (this lucanid has been made as adult and pupa before, so with this figure, one can complete the life cycle!)

The plankton set comes out next month, and for those interested, there are a couple farm animal sets out now too.

They are making a Lobster Moth caterpillar! :o And the Dorcus hopei binodulosus larva looks really great, too.

Has this one been posted anywhere:

It's a deep-sea Kaiyodo set! Some nice figures, but budget and space may not allow for it...

Most aren't unique figures but are definitely well-done, and/or improvements on existing Kaiyodo versions. I'm guessing that someone else can tell what the crustacean-looking thing is.

Newt

It looks like a giant isopod (Bathynomus sp.).  Those suckers are impressive- I've seen a few in aquaria.

Haven't seen the Deep Sea set yet :).
Does anybody know why the snail is figure #4 and #5 as well?

Here are the newest announcements for 2014: http://www.capsuleq.in/m/index.htm
The next Animatales set and a set of toxic animals.

bmathison1972

WOW, cant wait to get the centipedes in the DangerQ set. Lots of buggies for Blaine this year :)

I found some images on Jauce--apparently, the snail is the chase figure with two different paint versions. I wouldn't have guessed that...

So there won't be just that (supposedly resin) Barreleye by Kaiyodo this year, this one seems to be better than the T-A.R.T.S version. :) The Pelican/Gulper Eel looks interesting - with its head being smaller than that of previous Pelican Eel figures I wonder if this may represent a true Gulper Eel, Saccopharynx sp. instead.

Were those real Bathynomus giganteus or did they belong to another Bathynomus species (e.g. B. doederleinii)? I'm not aware that giganteus has been kept in captivity, yet (although it should be possible, they are merely a bathyal species and could be sampled alive).

#10
I'm afraid I don't know.  I saw one many years ago at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago- I believe it was part of a special, temporary exhibit- and several in the deep-sea exhibit of the Enoshima Aquarium near Tokyo in 2010 (they also had some tremendous spider crabs in another tank in that section).  I wish I had taken notes, or had a better memory.  My photos from Enoshima perished in a computer mishap.

*Edit* There's a picture of an Enoshima specimen on page 2 of this map by the header "2 Deep Sea Part I".  It's pretty small, probably not identifiable, but it's the best I can do.

More updates from Kaiyodo:
http://www.capsuleq.in/m/index.htm

That set to be released in September looks promising. While I will only collect the moth and isopod (first toy/figure of a terrestrial isopod, to my knowledge), the agamid lizard and turtle hatchling are appealing!!!

:D The Okinawa Tree Lizard is a must-have!!!

Whoa, the whole set is a must for me. 8) I guess Blaine may be as excited as me about that Atlas Moth? :o

yeah sets like this sometimes make me wish I collected animals more generally; a very nice ensemble to say the least!!!

And yes, while the moth is very impressive I am actually more excited for the isopod, as I believe it is the first toy/figure of a terrestrial isopod (not including the Bathynomus figures out there...or at least the three I have and are aware of...)

stargatedalek

its certainly a very pretty isopod, wish I knew the species

brontodocus

It's apparently a member of the pillbugs, Armadillidiidae, and a name translation from the CapsuleQ website reveals that it is a species endemic to Japan, Cubaris iriomotensis. Quite obscure (even for an isopod figure) since this one hadn't been described until 1990.  :)

Interesting. Well, based on the cat too this must be a set specific to Iriomote ? (I like how Kaiyodo has been rolling out figures lately, with smaller sets that are theme-based!).
