Isidro: yes, it's a cestode

Badger: yes, it can infect humans.

yes Dibothriocephalus latus (= Diphyllobothrium latum). You won't find this pic online, but you will find it in my recent publication on zoonotic helminths in North America  ;D

To beetle or not to beetle.

looks like an amphipod of some kind but darned if I know which. I was also thinking a freshwater insect larva (I never learned immature stages lol) but there are too many legs.

Badger

Found it. It's Corophium lacustre.
(a.k.a. Ravonium, on the DTF and STS)

Isidro

Hooray! Yes it's Corophium lacustre, that certainly is amphipod.

Badger

Since no-one's done a herp in a while, here's my new species:

(a.k.a. Ravonium, on the DTF and STS)

bmathison1972

looks like an immature tiger salamander

1. No, it isn't
2. I'll give you some credit for not saying that it is an axolotl :P
3. It is an Ambystoma species

Well I got the right genus, is that good enough? Are species-level diagnostic features showing in this image?

Yes. Adults of this species are neotenic, and the patterning is fairly distinctive.
(a.k.a. Ravonium, on the DTF and STS)

Isidro

I would say it's Ambystoma andersoni. Pattern looks like identical to me, it's neotenic and is not conspecific with tiger salamander unlike some other "species".

Yes, it's Ambystoma andersoni :)

Great! Another amphibian here, but a bit tricky to find:

Pristimantis boulengeri

First thought it one of the family (called in Dutch  'Antiliaanse fluitkikkers') Eleutherodactylidae.
To beetle or not to beetle.

How can you get inmediately at first attempt and before any hint, the name of an poorly known frog of an extremely speciose genus where all species look alike???? Yes it is Pristimantis boulengeri.... Congrats!

That caterpillar is much easier than my frog: Papilio machaon.

To beetle or not to beetle.
