Forget markings, it's the exact pose, every scale, every "lump" in its neck and belly, it's all identical.

The presence of the barely legible CE stamp is already evidence it isn't what they claim.

bmathison1972

it's probably some bizarre ping pong match: The antique figure influenced Papo, so someone thought they could pass a Papo off as an antique figure  :o C:-)

Roger

I am not sure why I was quoted here but probably this is what you need. Here a picture of my Papo croc markings.

I'm definitely on board with Ikessauro now. Initially I thought it couldn't be a fraud because of its widespread presence on the web. Just Google Image search "Franz Bergman crocodile" and this sculpture comes up a lot. And, it wouldn't be far fetched for Papo to "borrow" the design of their figure from another source, us dinosaur collectors know that all-to-well. But in this case it really seems like the Papo crocodile is being modified en masse and passed off as something it isn't. Just goes to show you how easy it is to be scammed. A Franz Bergman, antique, or other collector with no knowledge of plastic animal toys could be easily scammed by this sort of thing. Frankly, I'm amazed that someone would go to such great lengths to pull off such a niche scam but apparently they have.

NSD Bashe

It is somewhat ironic then if that croc is a crock.  Question is, would the seller know or were they duped as well?

Ikessauro

It is interesting to see that Papo even changed the way they marked the toy. Roger's model has a "shalow" stamp, some others, have a deeper stamp. My white crocodile has the deeper version. When did you buy yours @Roger ?

I received it in 2016, as it was a gift, I can't be sure when it was bought.

You can see in this Papo croc auction the CE mark is exactly where the "remnants" appear to be on the "sculpture".

I noticed some people here like caterpillars and then I happened to notice this on eBay, not sure if it's what anyone's looking for or not but there's an interesting set here

Some Safari Deep Sea Fish, pretty pricey but look to be in good shape, Gulper Eel has tags:

Black Loosejaw: https://www.ebay.com/itm/403394557804

Viperfish: https://www.ebay.com/itm/403394552780

Gulper Eel: https://www.ebay.com/itm/403394551871

Anglerfish (different seller, price is pretty insane): https://www.ebay.com/itm/154841045631

NSD Bashe

That Safari angler fish doesn't even seem to have it's lure; there's one that has the lure and is even more expensive...  not that long ago they would now and then show up for like a fifth of that price..

Here's an even cheaper Safari viperfish that also comes with a few other animals, it's actually been there for ages and no one's gone for it--for a while it was a bit harder to find these
https://www.ebay.com/itm/284595908802?hash=item42433cf0c2:g:5pgAAOSw2QZhXHmx

If you account for shipping this gulper eel's also cheaper
https://www.ebay.com/itm/313779468758?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200818143230%26meid%3Dd57e91c67b944b75a2cf9ea075269a3e%26pid%3D101224%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D403394551871%26itm%3D313779468758%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DDefaultOrganicWeb&_trksid=p2047675.c101224.m-1

the funny thing is, for a while it was almost impossible to find the Safari gulper eel and at higher prices they'd go quickly but these two gulper eel listings have been there for a while now and no one's bought them

just goes to show how eBay prices and availability change over time

I remember finding the gulper eel figure with tags in the library of a Chicago Public School of all places while volunteering. I was VERY tempted to bring it home with me but alas, it wasn't mind to take. A cool figure, but I don't know if real gulper eels have an orange mouth.

Didn't even notice about that anglerfish missing its lure.

There's also another Loosejaw that someone wants $79.99 for!

NSD Bashe

Yeah I noticed that one a while ago!  That one used to generally go for like 20-30 bucks maybe a year ago.

Also here's the much larger Safari Incredible Creatures pelican eel for a bit

Yikes. I got that figure a couple years back and definitely did not pay a hundred bucks for it. I think I got it for like, under $30.

NSD Bashe

funny we were just talking about these and a new listing comes up for a cheaper one...

this is a link to a search for newly-listed Play Visions figures!

Someone is selling figures from all of the weasels, civets/genets, and bees/wasps/hornets collections

I was able to get the final two wasps for me to FINALLY complete this Holy Grail collection
