How to fit Colorata Ueno Zoo figures into the base?

So I recently received the Colorata Ueno Zoo set, and I love it... but the problem is is that I do not know how to attach the Siberian tiger, okapi, and reticulated giraffe into their bases. There are pegs in the bases and holes in the feet of the animals, but I cannot for the life of me wedge them in. Any ideas on how to do this?

You could try putting the foot of the animal (or whatever part of the anatomy has the holes) briefly in warm/hot (not boiling) water and see if that helps. That's what I have to do with Bandai 'Diversity' figures.

The Ueno figures are an older set and definitely need some massaging in. Fortunately, they can handle a bit of flexing and pushing
