Quote from: bmathison1972 on July 05, 2025, 01:13:35 PMI have to be honest @Gwangi I have never watched a single shark week show ever. I stopped watching a lot of nature shows in the late 1990s when they started to shift from educational to sensationalistic. I know many have reverted back to traditional educational, but I seem to remember Shark Week being born out of the era when sensationalism was popular. I bet some of the earlier years were better, but I just feel it was a down time in terms of nature shows. Thank goodness for the animal show renaissance in recent years, especially with the Attenborough-narrated stuff I can see on BBC and recently others (e.g., the Americas).

The late 90's and early 00's is about when I stopped watching Shark Week. As a kid in the 90's I ate up nature documentaries and I still have stacks of VHS tapes full of ones I recorded off the TV. I liked Shark Week back then ( I remember when they aired it around the Super Bowl and called it Shark Bowl) but I was also a kid, so the sensationalism probably worked on me. As I got older I saw Shark Week for what it was. I'll occasionally look through whatever shark documentaries are on the streaming services but I'm seldom impressed by what I find.

The only one I really watched was near the beginning of it all, about prehistoric sharks in Bear Gulch with Ray Troll inspired reconstructions.

Hard to sensationalize fossil chimeras!

Might consider the Neko Works Starry Smoothhound but it's not painted and I'm a coward

The angular rough shark is a great choice, interested to see your thoughts on it! And I'm in the same place with my unpainted Starry Smoothhound  ::D

I hope you still do the Qualia keychain plushes also! That's the kind of stuff that's rare on the Blog  :*D

Yes, I definitely will still be reviewing those Qualia keychains too! So I can do two reviews then: Papo Thresher and then those Qualia keychains as one separate review

Worse, I have two just in case. But can't bring myself to do it. I also have a Neko Greenland shark, but only one

I had a Neko cookiecutter shark. Painted it. Wasn't happy with the results. Eventually replaced it with a Takara version.

I have the Takara and Colorata. Probably why I didn't get the Neko

Y'all saying you're not sure what to review or don't know what you have left that hasn't been reviewed but you're in here talking about stuff I didn't even know existed. ::)

Sometimes it's just hard to figure out what would make a good review!

Anything not on the blog, I would say. Especially species that haven't been featured yet.

suspsy

I can review a plush hammerhead shark.

suspsy

I've submitted mine. Fit it in on whatever day works that week.

bmathison1972

Looks like we currently have eight reviews planned. Do we start early on 7/19 or extend it to 7/27? I favor the latter  8)

bmathison1972

Also, the review by Suspsy is scheduled for July 21. As reviews get completed, I will put them towards the front end, allowing more time for those reviews that are not ready yet!

sbell

I just need to do my photos!

I agree with extending it.

I just finished mine up--I will schedule for the 22nd.

JimoAi

I'll just take what's left

Gwangi

I got my reviews done! I updated the first post with dates, put JimoAi down for the 24th (since he said he'll take what's left), and that left only the 23rd unclaimed so I put Alopias superciliosus in that spot.

bmathison1972

And whatever @Alopias superciliosus doesn't get done in time for 7/23 can be done on 7/27 (or whatever day follows shark week)

Alopias superciliosus

Yes, happy to take 7/23 and 7/27! My papo thresher arrived in today so I will have time to make a review on it- I'll probably do the thresher on 7/23 and the qualia keychains for 7/27
