Heads up! Shark Week begins on July 20th. Hope we have a decent assortment of reviews on the blog this year. I can contribute a couple reviews but none of them will be the 2025 sharks from CollectA, Papo, and Safari. Aside from the Safari porbeagle I don't think they're available in the states yet.

July 20th- Gwangi: Schleich 95 white shark

July 21st- Suspsy: Plush Hammerhead

July 22nd- Sbell: Discovery Science angular rough shark

July 23rd- Alopias superciliosus: Papo thresher

July 24th-JimoAi: Safari 2016 Great White Shark

July 25th- Gwangi: Safari 96 Leopard shark

July 26th- bmathison: Safari Porbeagle

July 27th- Alopias superciliosus: Qualia keychains

I haven't even thought about it. Not sure what figure I'd do yet

JimoAi

I have one, which will be my last review for a long time

bmathison1972

I would like to, but being a synoptic collector I am not sure what I have left that hasn't been reviewed or requested already. I'll try and come up with something.

Alopias superciliosus

Excited! I was going to do a review on four of the Qualia keychain plushes. There are four really interesting species there that have only appeared in figure form as those plushes; was going to do one review covering all four!

Happy to contribute multiple reviews this year as well- I have a handful of other shark figures that haven't been reviewed before!

That's the reaction I was looking for! Glad someone is on board.

That's the hardest part. Never sure what's still available...!

But I'm sure I could pull out something from Japan, I have several of those

bmathison1972

I just ordered the Papo 2025 thresher shark; I can review that one assuming @Alopias superciliosus doesn't want priority AND it arrives in time :-)

Otherwise, since there is no specific interest in it yet, I can take the Safari Porbeagle shark if Alopias superciliosus wants the Papo thresher!

While that was a figure I had my eyes on and would like to do a review on, I can't seem to find it on ebay; @bmathison1972, could you point me to where you found it?

Happy for you to take the review for that though if need be, especially if I don't manage to buy one in time; I have a bunch of other shark figures I can tackle instead!  :)

Gwangi

My contributions will be a couple of toys from the 90's, I don't think I'll have any competition there. Really did want to review one of the 2025 sharks but all well. In the case of the porbeagle someone else should do it since I reviewed the salmon shark (same sculpt).

I can always take the Porbeagle instead. Being a synoptic collector of sharks, I don't have much that hasn't been reviewed or reserved. I can always check my database though.

Alopias superciliosus

Sounds good- excited for your Porbeagle review and any other figures you might find!

bmathison1972

@Gwangi - @Alopias superciliosus and I have chatted via PM and he will review the Papo thresher (whether or not it's in time for Shark Week). Put me down for the Safari Porbeagle.

sbell

I've been thinking it over. I think I'll do the Discovery Science angular rough shark

Might consider the Neko Works Starry Smoothhound but it's not painted and I'm a coward

I updated the first post with who plans to review what. Even if it isn't finalized yet. Looks like we'll get at least five reviews...not bad! @JimoAi, do you have anything planned?

I guess figuring out dates is the next step. Since I have two I'll take July 20th and 25th, to space them out.

bmathison1972

I'll take the last possible day, or last available day. Gives me time!
The new academic year has started and I'm super busy.

Ok, I put you down for July 26th, the last day of Shark Week.

I should probably confess that I don't actually like Shark Week. Looking at the week's lineup reminded me why. We've got "documentaries" like Great White Assassins, Great White Sex Battle, Great White Northern Invasion, Surviving Jaws, Frankenshark, and Attack of the Devil Shark. It's all sensationalist crap. As someone with a genuine interest in sharks I want documentaries about their biology, evolution, diversity, and conservation, but shows like that are very few and far between. Anyway, watch TheMalibuArtist on YouTube, his content is better than anything that will be on Discovery.

JimoAi

I have the safari ltd 2016 white shark planned tho idh a definite date

bmathison1972

I have to be honest @Gwangi I have never watched a single shark week show ever. I stopped watching a lot of nature shows in the late 1990s when they started to shift from educational to sensationalistic. I know many have reverted back to traditional educational, but I seem to remember Shark Week being born out of the era when sensationalism was popular. I bet some of the earlier years were better, but I just feel it was a down time in terms of nature shows. Thank goodness for the animal show renaissance in recent years, especially with the Attenborough-narrated stuff I can see on BBC and recently others (e.g., the Americas).

I hope you still do the Qualia keychain plushes also! That's the kind of stuff that's rare on the Blog  :*D
