Thank you very much! Its not a perfect sculpt by any means but yes- I think this shows that sometimes things just need a new coat of paint. He is going to be my painting desk buddy I think now. Benny the Bengal is in town!

My area finally got some snow, and on a lazy quiet Sunday, I spent most of the day painting. Its been a hot minute since I have had a chance to paint so it was nice. Anyway, these 3 have been started but never finished since then and I got em wrapped up today.

First up, a bluebuck! Originally the Mojo Fun sable antelope. This one was really challenging because the handful of taxidermied specimens are very damaged and suffer from age related deterioration as well as color loss. My references were illustrations but these vary hugely from one to the next.

And now, back into more familiar territory. Secondly I have an Ethiopian wolf painted from the Safari Ltd. coyote. This was a highly anticipated species I wanted to work on.

And lastly, and surprisngly it might be my favorite(?). The Papo "jackal" into an Iberian wolf!

My favorite thing are the eyes. They are there(!) in the sculpt! They just got paint slopped over them from the factory paint scheme that was chosen. A shame as they are really lovely.

Very nice! I know you gave me a sneak-peek at one of them, but the other two are fantastic also! Esp. the Ethiopian wolf!

Looks great! I'm looking to make a culpeo out of something. I'm decent at paint jobs, but what existing figure might make for a passable culpeo anatomically?
I like turtles.

Thank you! Your question is intriguing... let me mull it over and I will list some figures I think would work. The hard thing on this one is you need a jackal-ly looking fox!

Isidro

Quite good choices and great repaints! The coyote sculpt fits very well with an Ethiopian wolf. I think that maybe you should paint the black mark in the inner side of the forelegs that give the Iberian wolf their subspecific epithet.

Saarlooswolfhound

You are 100% right- I forgot the signature dark patches on their legs ehich gives them their latin name. I will add that tomorrow- thanks for catching it!

@BlueKrono, I think this is the model that will work best as it should be fairly easy to find and matches the proportions I think fairly well (especially that long tail).

BlueKrono

I like turtles.

No problem, happy to help!I can't wait to see it once you finish it. Sounds like a great project.

Saarlooswolfhound

It is now fixed.

This poor Safari Ltd. bull elk I rescued from horrible condition at a thrift store. Antlers snapped off to nubs and badly scuffed. Now its an elk cow for my small herd.

Then an experiment! This was quite challenging for a variety of reasons but I learned a lot for next time. This is the Imperial sabertooth turned from mac n cheese yellow to a melanistic specimen. You can see the original here: https://toyanimalwiki.mywikis.wiki/wiki/Imperial_Smilodon

Its a lot less glossy in person...

Couple of new ones- a bootleg of the Papo Dimetrodon inspired by the WWM series.

And then the Schleich mouflon turned into a urial.

And this one I realize is a little bit of a stretch- NewRay bighorn turned into an argali. I just think of it as a younger specimen in his summer coat (argali are pretty muscled and in their winter coat they can be fluffy- but reference photos ranged wildly in physique of individuals and their coloration).

And a group photo with my dall's sheep custom.

Unless you have it, Bullyland once produced a Dall sheep, like 25 years ago. The same model was used for their mouflon
