Another series I "caved" on...

I was fortunate to come across this lot off ebay that not only had nearly every New Ray dog from their "Novelty" series (except for two) but they also have nearly all their original tags- and it was listed very reasonably to boot! This series adds several new breeds to my collection and although I don't love their hollow, almost rubber ducky style to them, they *are* very charming and I can't resist.

I hope to add the last 2 soon and may even go after the cat series too... who knows?

My favorite by default is the American cocker as it looks like my Flynn I lost in February and not many cocker art/figures do look like him. But also love the Tibetan spaniel! And... and...

Sorry for the delayed reply, but thank you! I was thrilled to find it.

These are a mix of finds over the last month and some purchases for myself for my birthday.

First up! I know most people were excited for the new bird series from Mojo, but these were just as exciting to me if not more so! I have really gotten to appreciate both wild fish species and domestic breeds, and my dream is to one day have a large tank for goldfish and a backyard pond for koi fish. This will have to work for now. ;)

I think the Asagi is my very favorite- they did a wonderful job recreating a difficult color pattern.

Then I also bought the new Eofauna elephants which I adore, and some other Mojo models- the black Shiba, new gray wolf, barn owl, and cryptoclidus. I also found on ebay the Geoworld smilodon, AAA small entelodont and hyaenodon, the AAA baby pangolin(!), Happy Kin pterosaur, SunWai rainbow trout, Bullyland black poodle, and Toy Major bat eared fox.

There is going to be a part 2 to the birthday additions once they arrive to me.  :sunny:

My most anticipated model arrived today (still 2 more purchases from my birthday splurge are still on the way). Anyway, Ramses by Mesozoic Life is simply goegeous. I love him! He has a few minor paint flaws and his right foot got a little warped in transit but I think I can fix that easily enough. He is a first of its kind indulgence for me, but since its my favorite dino, in a modern interpretation that I like (the posture/gait/locomotion), and has a lovely paint scheme I just went for it.

And now I am planning out a special prehistorics display shelf to show off some of my favorite models including him and my Eofauna Sue! I'm not good with scale but I think they roughly fit together? At any rate, I think they present two varieties of powerful extinct predators.

And the last of my birthday purchases arrived and I found a handful of items while waiting for those too.

I snagged the AAA jumbo prehistorics all the way from Slovenia! Then I also came across lots that included the SunWai salmon adult (the pairing to my recently discovered rainbow trout painted juvenile), a large Toy Major GSD, a mysterious small puzzle wolf figure, Remington labrador and Elk bull, Safari lioness, AAA white wolf pup (whiter variant than my original), and a paint variant of the K&M Asparagus (maned) wolf! I will post a few comparison shots in my comparison thread if you might be interested.

Is 'asparagus wolf' another term for a maned wolf?  :o  ????

@bmathison1972 Apparently to K&M it is! This sculpt is stamped "meyers asparagus" on the belly. You can see it in my comparisons thread (albeit upside down dangit!). This species is commonly known as the "skunk wolf" though due to its musky odor so asparagus wolf would work too!  :*D  ::D

*Edit: I an well aware this scientific name is not for edible aspatagus but for a fern. Nonetheless, Asparagus wolf is the nickname with collector folks I know.*

It looks like Myers Asparagus is a kind of fern  :o

Yes, I made a note in my message just as you posted your reply! Cabbage totally fits too.  :))

I just can't believe that this Asparagus figure is still around... I first found one in, like, 2006 or so (might be around still, no idea). It was a bagged set from a Dollar store...it was long ago that I think I mentioned it on Laughing Giraffe forum (IYKYK)

That's a name I haven't heard of in a while! I was never a member, but around the time I was lurking on STS before I joined it was around.

The sculpt itself is actually quite nice on this model. The quality (hollow plastic) and size is the only potentially off-putting factors. But I like the model overall.

Meyer's asparagus is a true asparagus and is absolutely unrelated with ferns. It may wear the name "fern" in the common name maybe, but in the same way than an anteater is not related with an ant...

I did get a pair, but the smaller one wasn't labeled, so it wasn't as fun

As I said in my comment, its not the the same as *edible* asparagus (such as I am familiar with). But yes, I did unintentionally intone that its a fern when its it is only fern like in its looks. But to clear- myers asparagus is NOT edible but is a common decorative cultivar. An asparagus fern (asparagus setaceus) is another which is not a fern and is actually toxic.

I apologize for my vague commentary before but this is an animal toy forum, I claim to be no expert in plants and was happy to do a little easy Google-ing to find more info for myself.

I think you mean the Nayab ones? I have several of those too as seen here on my website

That's the ones. Mine were in a bag labelled 'Dillon' or something like that. Just one more reuse of the Nayab figures. Which apparently have been around almost 20 years at least

Dillon toys, yes I've seen that before! I like these sculpts too, but they suffer the same issue as the K&M (cheap manufacture/plastic/paint/etc.).

That is kind of fascinating, I know K&M has some slightly odd ways of labeling some figures like their hula skirt siphonophore is called a "hula hoop jellyfish"... but at least there you can kind of see where the confusion happened.  You're saying with this, they actually just labeled a canine as a type of plant...? that has to be a misprint right?  Did K&M ever produce figures of plants?  Could they have somehow switched the stamp for a different figure's label by accident?  The one other thing this kind of makes me think of is a brand called Obvious Plant where they'll have something like a dollar store style package of plastic horses labeled "weird dogs".  What a truly curious find for your compendium    ::D

I think the sculpt was originally Nayab, and just keeps getting circulated

Actually my reply was for @bmathison1972 , who said "it seems Meyers asparagus is a kind of fern". Sorry for any misunderstanding.
