Ahh I see, well if it's any help then the page calls the brand Yeonha Toys so that could be a start

So sorry for the delay in replying.

@BlueKrono, I agree that aliexpress is difficult to navigate (hence why so many of my dog figures are now gigantic!). This is the exact item I bought.

@sbell, this seller is on Ebay and is based in Japan. Goes by the name of Kobe_one- he doesn't always have the coloratas in stock separately, but all you gotta do is wait and eventually he will upload individuals. Ships quickly, bundles shipping, and easy to message if needed. Highly reccomend, here is a link to one of his items for anyone interested in checking his store out

Just another positive advertisement for this ebay seller Kobe_one for @sbell or anyone else interested;

I just ordered a set of something from him on October 1st, and it arrived to my house today via Fedex. Really fast shipping usually, very communicative seller, I would HIGHLY reccomend!

I have ordered a lot of stuff from Kobe_one, especially when I first started expanding beyond arthropods. Yeah, they use FedEx which is more expensive but super fast.

Turns out I came across that seller a couple days ago and purchased a few Colorata figures I've been wanting!

Given the shipping cost I'm guessing it will take a while, but that's okay, I've waited this long!

Saarlooswolfhound

I was going to wait a little longer for my other items to arrive but my goodness I am in love and had to share... Has anyone heard of Stasto? Apparently, they made 2 series of bettas and I couldn't resist. As a fish I enjoy keeping around in real life and enjoy watching and caring for them (despite their often all too short life spans) these are works of art in miniature. I can't wait to find more betta figures as my wallet can accomodate them!

EpicRaptorMan

I had a couple red betta. These are really cool and I'm considering on getting the red one....but I worry that'll start cracking open a new can of worms for collecting pets.

Do any brands offer "wild types"?

There's a few from Marmit. I can't recall if there are any wild ones though. Maybe Azur/Prior but I can't find a list.

Saarlooswolfhound

There is a wild type betta, I do own one. My default is to say Kaiyodo but I don't quite recall... I will see if I can check it for you.

Aaaand the rest of my recent purchases now that they have all arrived. (Just HAD to share the bettas because they truly intoxicated me)

Firstly, to address my post title: I have been a member of STS forum since 2011 and my young self remembers avoiding the "vintage" section because the models just didn't really appeal to me aesthetically, I never could afford nor identify half of them (let alone their history), and I was petrified of their fragility (there were many more vintage collectors and restoration projects being shared back then). I have healthily resisted... until recently. And I blame my dear friend Kikimalou/Christophe for my newest ailment. He infected me by generously gifting me a Lineol sable antelope and eland, AND striped hyena a while back. Again because of my living situation they lived in a shoebox for a few months until I got to a safer and more vintage friendly living situation where... I can see them every day. And I found myself delighting in these very different figures than what I consider my traditional collection.

So what does one do? Try to alleviate the "itch". I found 2 Elastolin Preiser wolves (one is struggling to reach me in light of the Southeastern US hurricane devastation) and some Hausser Elastolin bears; all of which I enjoy immensely. I will not go so far (yet) as to admit that I am now a vintage collector. But if I come across a few I fancy, said friend I know won't be denied.

As for the rest, these are all online purchases. The birds are (bootleg) Nayabs, a Marmit white betta (the last one I have easy access and budget for), and the newest Schleich SE reindeer (purchased brand new but second handed from an ebay seller). I finally found an alexiornis from BBC WWD the movie! Several Blip toys which means I have lots of dog breed pics to redo. Some chinamal animals. And some miscellaneous pets (safari toobs, Blip toys, Kenner, unknown, etc.). And a very large squishy bootleg chinamal wolf.

And just a few comparison photos.
Giant bootleg/heavily inspired squishy chinamal wolf.

New "seek" fox- any determination on species? I am leaning towards Tibetan myself.

Aaaand the newest SE holiday reindeer.

I'm still frustrated after my debacle from last year. But this year I can definitely feel that the antler material is MUCH softer than the others. Crooked antlers will just have to be ignored I think...

sbell

Oh, the fragile old ones! Never found the striped hyena, but I have the spotted.

Next up, down the Starlux rabbit hole. I have mostly prehistoric ones, but a few others including a maned wolf and hyena.

Saarlooswolfhound

I really like most of the caniforms and ungulates in the vintage market- so this is very dangerous for my wallet. I *don't* really like any of the primates
reptiles, or birds I have seen with a rare exception (like peacocks and pheasants). I am still really new to the genre of figures- but there are indeed some really nice figures from starlux, elastolin, Preiser, etc. I am trying to limit myself as best I can but... I know it'll slip as time goes on.  ::)

NSD Bashe

Ah yeah the actual vintage figures (regardless of the 80s-90s and even some 2000s figures listed on eBay as "vintage"  :)) )  I think the only Starlux figure I have that I know of is a little babirusa.  I've seen that appear on eBay a couple times.

Also I don't suppose you know anything more about the "SEEK fox"?  I think I've seen an eBay listing with a couple plastic fish that had random words like that printed on them, and I'm wondering if they're connected / have any story to why these words are written on them...

Saarlooswolfhound

Thanks! Do you know the brand of your babirusa? I am curious...

As for the seek fox. Years ago, I came across a macaw with the word "love" on its back. I have king since repainted it. This latest lot, both the barn owl figure and the fox have words on their dorsals too. Owl is "Ask", fox is "Seek". No idea on the provenance of them, only that now there are 3 I have come across to date.

NSD Bashe

Yeah Starlux, it's the same as the one listed here:

https://toyanimalwiki.mywikis.wiki/wiki/Starlux_Babirusa

(also the tiniest of my babirusas  :) )

I believe one of the fish I saw was an anglefish or butterflyfish with an inspirational word like HOPE or PROVIDENCE on it.  I think the other might have been a dolphin with a similar word.

Saarlooswolfhound

Thanks, another oldie I may need to find. ;)

Interesting, I haven't seen any ocean animals yet but evidently there is some producer out there making these fairly decent animal figures with odd word attachments on them.

The trickiest vintage fish are Prior/Azur. Portuguese, I think, and a great range that's terribly misnamed most of the time. Some show up as plastic recasts, others never do.

I mean, they made archerfish and headstanders. Such weird choices. 60s I think

Saarlooswolfhound

Speaking of...

Probably my last new additions for a while. I completed a trade with an STS friend for some Prior fish and an Albert Heijn dingo (at long last I have this little doggo!). I also snagged a pair of COG Ltd. Cambrian animals, and then a paint variant of the Preiser wolf (now I have 2!).

bmathison1972

those are the only two COG Cambrian inverts I have, too, but I want to get them all!
