And the finale for this category: "Fossils" (and a few extant skulls)

I have a few real fossils but I enjoy these plastic ones too.

And now, the Prehistorics page is viewable on The Curious Compendium!

Now we can begun the final category! This is just a catch all misc. group and consists of subcategories that aren't a big focus or fit outside the perview of regular animal collecting (in my mind).

Caterpillars!

Obviously these are just the larval stage of various insects but it makes the most sense to me to group em together this way. ;)

Butterflies part 1

This was what initially got me to cave on "not collecting insects" (that a hefty dose of Blaine branded corruption!  >:D ). But the Western Tiger Swallowtail and Cabbage White butterflies have a special connection to me in real life. Overall, while its still a small part of my overall collection- I really enjoy my butterfly selection.

And the last of my butterflies!

Again, I'm no expert but I do think these are beautiful even if they don't come close to comparing to the real thing.

the white one with tails in the lower right was my daily Museum post this morning  :o

That's funny! What are the odds!

I really enjoy learning about bees and behaviors, and I appreciate my local dragon flies as they help with the mosquito population as natural predators (I am highly allergic to mosquito bites).

More creepy crawlies!

The beetles of this series to me are beautiful- and as they are the most diverse animal group on earth I wish they got more attention in modern brands. The carrion beetle I have worked a bit with personally, and havung grown up in the great Potato State (Idaho) I have an understanding for things like potato beetles. The other notable for me here is the banana slug. In my brief time as a kid living in Oregon (nearish the coast) we used to get these sliming all over our porch before we left for school every morning. As a scrawny kid they seemed ENORMOUS and while rather gross if I looked at them too closely for too long, they have always been a bit intriguing to me. Hence my custom repaint here.

Arachnids!

Frankly, scorpions are still quite scary to me, and while I have a healthy respect for spiders nowadays, there's a lot of those that I'm afraid of too.  :||  But I try to leave them alone as best as I can unless they might cause a bigger issue. I actually have a whole ecosystem of black and white fuzzy jumping spiders that I coexist with in and around my house! They are pretty fun to watch. I recently discovered that in 2022 studies found that jumping spiders might dream just like we do!

Just a few homo sapiens that I have come across over the years. My favorites are the shepherd and Santa Claus figures.

Next up- some equine event sets!

I am actually really proud of this completed series and its a group I really enjoy pulling out and appreciating every now and then.

Western settlement models!

This is a series I loved as a kid and I hope to complete it too someday!

Saarlooswolfhound

Knights!

I also loved Schleich's original historical series and wish they had kept their original charm. But alas... someday I'd love to have the rest of the knights and their mounts at least! (including the camel riders!)

Saarlooswolfhound

More mounted knights!

As a kid I loved these mounted models for the horses. It was something exciting and a bit frustrating though to wonder what the horse would look like under the fabric- tantalizing my imagination but with a question that would never be answerable.

And now we move into the more fantastical types!

As a kid, fantasy books were my favorite! As an adult, I really enjoy learning about different culture's stories, fairytales, and mythology. A lot more than you'd think are actually based on real animals or phenomenon and are only *slightly* exaggerated based on the context.

Do you have a favorite fantasy animal or mythological creature? I couldn't pick just one!

Saarlooswolfhound

More beastial fantasy models! Of course I love the dogs/wolves the most.

Saarlooswolfhound

Fantasy equines! The old Schleichs will always be some of my favorite and oldest friends.

I have decided to just wrap up my presentation on the forum since I completed my web page for this category today! So here are the last 8 photos and take a moment to wonder in the fact that this has taken me over 2 full years to complete! I started my web renovation in April 2023 and working on it while still holding a full time job, personal obligations, and just life in general... my website is now back up in full and will be maintained from now on as I get new models. Now I can focus on my next big collection project; a full census and information update for my records!

And don't forget to check out the site now! I have made a few tweaks to things like the menu banner. https://thecuriouscompendium.wixsite.com/curiouscompendium

Congratulations! You took on a huge project and got through it!

Now we'll just have to wait for your updates as the collection grows!
