Ugh, the caracal...I need to see it in real life, but I think I'll stick with hunting down the playvisions figure for now. Everything else I considered has not impressed me either.
Always looking for new species...

Thank you! I have updated the first post with everything except accessories and fantasy (you may keep these on your post if you'd like :) )

I will definitely be getting all of the felines and the eagle! The otter, the cow, and some of the others are tempting as well

I think this is an improvement upon last year's lineup.

The chameleon is great and the paintwork is executed very well. The baby rhino is a different sculpt from the previous version, despite them looking almost exactly the same. I have the 2018 figure and I think it looks a little better than the new one. The Harpy eagle is the one I'm most excited for this year-- it looks great! It's also nice to finally get a caracal. I think the paint could be better, but it looks decent.

I really wish Schleich would have kept up with the level of detail in the models they made closer to 2010/2011. I like to think 2011 was the peak year for new Schleich releases. The 2010 moose is my favorite example of how detailed their paintwork used to be, with all the subtle shading it had, and the dark wash used on the antlers. The same could be said of other models from that time, such as the warthog family and African buffalo. The paintwork on this year's gazelle and caracal look minimalistic in comparison.

Big improvement.

Caracal: good
Cheetah cub: great
Harpy Eagle: great (will replace my Safari Ltd)
Chameleon: good (size dependant)
Otter: good (will replace my tiny Papo one)

I think I will try to get the Chameleon, Harpy eagle, Aardvark, Dart frog, Otter and the Gorillas

suspsy

Any ideas as to what species of chameleon this is supposed to be?

Hmm...I assumed the usual veiled but looking at the head crest maybe not. @Lanthanotus and @Gwangi are our experts as lizard ID; maybe one of them as an idea. If it's not too big and can realistically be assigned to a new (for me) species, I might get it too!

I initially assumed it was a veiled chameleon at first glance but now I'm thinking it's a panther chameleon @bmathison1972 and @suspsy. The casque looks like a panther's and it appears that the toy has a distinct rostral process ("nose"), also like a panther chameleon.

bmathison1972

that's a great suggestion, Gwangi!

EpicRaptorMan

I agree with it more so being a Panther Chameleon although the Schleich figure doesn't seem to have as noticable of a boss on the nose.

I agree, but it does appear to be there. Honestly the figure is kind of crude, if you ask me. Too cute also.

EpicRaptorMan

@Gwangi maybe, but that could just be what we expect from Schleich now. I believe the 2023 catalog is out with these photos too and if so, these are likely the final products.

EpicRaptorMan

Also I keep seeing a lot of people claim this is only 1/2 of what Schleich is releasing? Could this be true? This lot seems about average for what they release annually.

NSD Bashe

The caracals are alright, but I can tell immediately that cheetah cub is going to be a big seller.  Also I love the expression on that baby gorilla..

Schleich 2023 is now available at HappyHenToys.com

But holy crap has Schleich fallen off!
Here's some photos from HappyHenToys showing off the advertised product from Schleich vs what the figure actually looks like.

So yall better get good at repaints, ATF. ^_^

Gwangi

My local TSC maintains a healthy stock of the latest Schleich figures, so I fell no need to ever buy one unseen online.
