#: 277929

I got this one awhile back, but compared to the Woodland Caribou by CollectA (http://animaltoyforum.com/blog/2021/12/24/woodland-caribou-wildlife-by-collecta/#more-9828) it looks a bit puny and insignificant.

So I ask what's the subspecies or sex of this one?

Reindeer subspecies are very difficult to characterize, and some specialists suggest that some are probably not valid. There are also morphologic variations among domestic populations.
That being said, this figure was sold in the North American Wildlife line, so that should narrow options.

I would say that it's likely a Peary caribou, the smallest subspecies in North America. I like this figure a lot, I will probably get it even though I have CollectA's.

@Gwangi I like that answer. I saw the review you did on the Woodland Caribou.

Is it really that large? 8" in length? Seems super crazy long for even a toy with an outstretched rear leg.
This Safari Ltd one in comparison is tiny. Only 3.5" long (including tail; 3.25" excluding tail) and is 3.5" inches from hoof to antler tip.

Nice Gwangi

I have tried to put subspecies names on reindeer figures, in hopes of adding subspecies to my collection. The only one I am somewhat confident on is the 2020 Schleich reindeer being a Svalbard reindeer

No, it's not 8", it's 5". Oops, I'll edit it later. Don't know how that happened. Thanks for pointing it out.
