@bmathison1972 can confirm that collectA's basking shark is larger than safari Screenshot_20201121_201755.jpg

bmathison1972

yes, larger than the Safari version and slightly smaller than the Papo whale shark!

The lobster is 15cm long and the darwin's frog is 5.7cm

I am getting the lobster no matter how big it is LOL. Passing on the frog since I already have the Yujin version

Is there going to be a fourth release batch, since if I recall correctly there was some talk about an extinct arthropod somewhere?  ???

yes, CollectA usually has fourth releases, and apparently there will be a prehistoric invertebrate (no proof yet that it is an arthropod, from what I can recall).

Arctinus

Thanks! Nice, that means I can look forward to more figures I might put on my wishlist.  ;D Oh, you're right, there was probably some talk about an invertebrate and someone probably just wrote they hope it'll be an arthropod, and I mixed these up.  :P

So at 22.5 cm, that's 9 meters/29.5 feet at the 1:40 scale, within range of the largest recorded specimens. It will belong nicely in my alpha-collection of marine life.

Then again it might be 1 or 2cm longer due to the figure being slightly curved

Even if it's a full 25cm, it'll still be good. I believe the largest scientifically verified specimen is 10 meters, so it still works out.

Someone on STS forum indicates the basking shark will be about 22 cm/1:35 scale

Sweet! It'll be nice to finally have one that roughly in scale with my MBA Whale Shark!

Also, while it may be slightly redundant, it's nice to see one of the reaaally long horned variants of the Texas Longhorn in toy form!

(I am of course interested in several of their prehistoric offerings, but I'm just here to talk about the other animals for now. ;) )

koala (replace Schleich)
exotic shorthair cat
Mongollian stallion

This might help

bmathison1972

Yeah, that's too big for me for that taxon

Arctinus

Hmm, I was hoping for some more obscure/rare extant animals or the ones Collecta hasn't released yet for the 4th batch. I already have the koala, kangaroo and the otter (Schleich, Schleich and Papo, respectively). But I'll see, maybe I'll replace some of them.

My list so far:

YES:
Mountain gorilla (baby)
Basking shark
Lobster
Darwin's frog
Deluxe mamenchisaurus
Doedicurus
Elasmosaurus
Xiphactinus

MAYBE:
Red kangaroo (male + with joey)
Koala
Common otter
Exotic shorthair cat
Kamuysaurus
Pravitoceras

I am quite disappointed at the lack of BIG animals. As I've said before, I'm dying for CollectA to either replace their  old and outdated Asian and African savannah elephants or release an African forest elephant. Other CollectA toys desperately in need of upgrades are the polar bears, the American alligator, the moose, the African buffalo, the baboon, the chimpanzees, the red fox, and the beaver, and probably others.

That said, these new wild animals all look superb. I'm especially impressed by the koala and the male kangaroo. Southlands Replicas finally has some competition!

Arctinus

I would like to see them replacing their elephants as well. I currently have the Schleich one, but their proportions (especially the heads) look a bit off, but I chose them because of their skin texture which, to me, looks very realistic (the female Schleich Asian elephant looks normal, at least). Also agree about the others. That's the reason I haven't bought the Collecta beaver or African buffalo.

The current adult African elephant is also terribly small. I don't own it, but I came across it in a zoo some years ago and by my recollection, it's smaller than the more recent hippo and white rhino toys. Totally inappropriate for the largest living land mammal!
