Thanks for the photos brontodocus!
And also I love the accuracy of this model.

That's a nice looking dolphin statue/ model  in my opinion

It's a shame the Aquameridian series was canceled. The next wave (so to speak) was going to have Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda

Thanks, CetaceanFan and Blaine! :)

Oh, I was already wondering what happened to them. So they never came past "Part 1" then? Too bad. :'( The few existing figures were all on par with the best of Kitan Club and Kaiyodo quality wise.

I was quite amazed, too, when it was released and was confident we'd see many more high quality sealife figures from them in subsequent years. On the other hand this one release wave is more than four years old and I haven't seen Maia & Borges releasing any new animal figure since then. I wonder if they ever will now that their previously released marine animals are apparently distributed by Papo and Mojö Fun.

CetaceanFan

I agree brontodocus I don't think they will because like you said the line is fairly old.

Also where would I be able to find this beauty?, as it is one of my favorite dolphin species.

Depends on where you live... I know of two shops in Germany that still have this figure in stock. :)

I live in the US, and I forgot to say this but I prefer online shops.  ;D

Ah, forgot to mention, those two are online shops. :)

And another WS Sealife figure! :) This time it's a walk-around of an older, retired figure that's probably not too easy to find anymore. So here comes the Safari Ltd Wild Safari Sealife Spotted Dolphin, item No. 2758-29. This is an old release, stamped 1996. It is most likely meant to represent the Atlantic Spotted Dolphin, Stenella frontalis (Cuvier, 1829). However, this species is very similar to the Pantropical Spotted Dolphin, Stenella attenuata (Gray, 1846), and the figure is a bit too generic to clearly identify it as an Atlantic instead of a Pantropical Spotted Dolphin. Total length of the figure is 133 mm so the scale is between approx. 1:13 and 1:17. Human figure (Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli by Hallmark) is approx. 1:16.5 - 1:17 scale. The Spotted Dolphin figure is a bit on the chubby side and less detailed than newer WS Sealife figures but it is not too often that we see a dolphin figure that is not made to represent the ubiquitous (in figure form) Tursiops truncatus. Stenella frontalis is distributed in the tropical and temperate Atlantic but the global population is currently unknown which is why IUCN classifies its conservation status as "Data Deficient".

Nice figure overall, but I feel like the mouth is a bit too thick and short.

So, no porpoises made by major companies?

At least there are not many porpoise figures. Dall's Porpoise has been made by Furuta and a Finless Porpoise by PV. I think Vaquitas have been made, too.

Hi AcroSauroTaurus, I am refreshing the focus on odontoceti (and actually on all cetaceans) just in these days, and realized that ziphiidae are the only family that I completely miss in the collection. The only one I know is this beautiful figure from Collecta, and it is the next on the list.

I always considered it a great achievement for Collecta, but as I see it from your pic, the white spots on the back of the animal look way more neat and flat than in the official pic on the Collecta site. They don't look that much similar to real Blaiville's colour pattern, what do you think?

It depends on the individual, but most have the big white spots, example:

Overall, it is a really good figure of a never before made species, a must have for cetacean collectors.

As for other beaked whale figures, theres the Strap-toothed Beaked Whale by Lontic/Nayab.

Some questions about producers making species:

Is there someone making a Phocoenidae species and a Pigmy Right Whale (Neobalaenidae)?

Someone out of Collecta making a Ziphiidae, Kogiidae, Platanistidae?

Someone out of Safari doing a Right Whale (Balaenidae) and a Grey Whale (Eschrichtidae)?

Schleich has a Northern Right Whale, as do Lontic/Nayab.  the Colorata North Pacific Right Whale, AAA Northern Right Whale, PlayVisions Bowhead Whale, Kaiyodo Red Data Bowhead, Maia and Borges Northern Right Whale, and the CollectA Bowhead. As for Grey Whales, theres the Collorata Grey Whale, the now retired, but beautiful Schleich Grey Whale.

Are you sure that the Colorata is a North Pacific Right whale?

I finally got my Mesoplodon densirostris, cool figurine, finally.

I can find only Maia and Borges' common dolphin on sale online, is there some other producer making this species?

I'm totally new to the forum (only 15 but have been collecting for almost a decade!) but would love some help in collecting some info on certain figures!  :)
I found a PlayVisions branded Boto River Dolphin and (hopefully) I'll be able to get her for Xmas. River dolphins of all kinds are my favourite animals and have been ever since I can remember. Was wondering if anyone could assist in tracking down some other River Dolphin figures from other brands that I can add to my collection!  ^-^
Already know about PlayVisions (Although I think there may be 2 versions?), Animal Planet Mini Kingdom, SeaWorld and CollectA branded ones, but wondering if there are others out there!
Thanks everyone!
