I tend to be generous too. There are some odd caveats. For example I have never given a plush figure 5 stars, because I just don't like plush. But I have given most plush figures four stars, since most on the Blog to-date represent interesting taxa.

I read these blog posts (though I admit I have some catching up to do!), but I usually vote for the ones that I have.  :)

These blog posts also help me decide if I should get a certain figure or not.  :))

I have always been curious about peoples' voting habits. Me, I never vote for my own posts but I always vote for all the others. My rating is based on several criteria involving the figure itself (not the photography or writing style of the reviewer nor their personal opinions). I take the age of the figure into consideration (for example I rate a vintage figure higher if it's not accurate, as it may have been the best of its species at the time it came out).

I also vote for the figure itself, and not the review, and I believe that's the intention of the function, and most people realize that. In light of that, I do occasionally vote for a figure I'm reviewing. I'm already reviewing it so I might as well give it a star rating too.

My rating is also based on several factors, such as age or what kind of toy it is. I'll rate a plush as a plush without factoring in how much better its plastic counterpart is. On the DTB especially I review such a broad range of stuff, and try to judge them in regards to their different classes... plush, plastic toys, action figures, vintage and modern, etc. Using a dinosaur as an example, a 5 star Jurassic World toy is not always better than a 4 star Safari toy, but I'm voting on them for what they are and what they're trying to accomplish.

Here is a screenshot of the Google Analytics monthly data for ATB since its launch to November 2020.

There has been a slow but steady increase in visitor numbers this year and last month was our highest to date, exceeding 1000 monthly users for the first time!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing that. That spike in September 2019 is interesting. Session duration is 3 minutes and 52 seconds, I guess that's how long it takes to read an average length review.

The early spike is when the blog was new so there was lots of promotion and people visiting it for the first time.

Yeah, average session duration sounds about right for reading a review, but the actual story is probably more complicated than that. Some visitors will spend a long time. Many will bounce and spend seconds on the site. The average will be in between.

Mammals were the first taxonomic category to reacy 150, so I though it was time for a STATs update.

First, Major Taxonomic Groups (remember, a post can have more than one broad taxonomic group):

Next, Companies and Manufacturers. Like with taxa, remember one post can have more than one manufacturer.

Other A - Companies with only two posts: Club Earth, COG Ltd., Early Learning Centre, Eikoh, Fujimi Mokei, Kitan Club/Ikimon, PNSO/Yiniao, Toy Fish Factory, Toy Major

Other B - Companies with only one post: Battat, Beauty of the Beasts, Bestiari, Break C. Ltd., Breyer, Burger King, CBIOV, Chick-Fil-A Properties, Inc., Egmont Ehapa Publishing Company, F-toys, Folkmanis, Funko, Funrise Toys, Ganz, Insect Lore, Invicta, Jam, Johan Scherft, Kid Galaxy, NaturimBild.at, The Petting Zoo, Playmobil, Rebor, Rhode Island Novelty, Ricolino, Science & Nature, SO-TA/Toys Spirits, Starlux, Target Brands, Tarlin, Tchibo, Wildlife Artists, Inc., Wing Mau, Wolff Marketing Group, Inc., WowWee

I wonder who is contributing to all the fish

sirenia

Actually planning my first fish, once I finished my winter wonderland series. Love these stats, like to see how they change with time.

@sbell contributed a lot of fish early on, and @Gwangi and @suspsy contributed several sharks. But @JimoAi you seem to be the Fish Master now :)

Yeah, I have been wrapped up in other things lately. At least most of the fish being done are ones that I don't have/collect!

Since I posted my 50th review today I thought I would count up my own stats for my first 50. No one asked for this, or probably cares, but I had fun doing it. Seems appropriate to post it here. Hopefully I didn't make any mistakes while tallying things up but I may have.

First off, taxonomic groups. I've reviewed a few TOOBS so I'm counting each species represented in a TOOB individually. Makes sense to me. My most reviewed species are the American bullfrog and great white shark with two reviews each. I prefer not to review the same species repeatedly. In doing this I'm surprised by how many bird species I've reviewed, I didn't realize it was that many.

Amphibians: 4
Mollusks: 4
Fishes: 15 (11 cartilaginous)
Birds: 22
Arthropods: 11
Reptiles: 10
Mammals: 19

82 species total

Next up, companies. Safari wins in a landslide, no surprise there. I haven't reviewed a singe CollectA figure but I have a few reserved so that will change eventually.

Safari: 21
Papo: 3
Schleich: 7
Wild Republic: 6 (all plush)
Mojo: 2
AAA: 6
Playvisions: 1
Funko: 1
Wade Ceramics: 1
Kid Galaxy: 1
Funrise Express: 1

It is fun to see, @Gwangi - thanks for sharing! You also have a good chunk of arthropods!

BTW, I have been keeping up with the stats, just haven't had time to convert the graphs into images. Maybe this long, holiday weekend.

Thanks @bmathison1972 ! As far as the arthropods go, 8 of them are butterflies from the Safari TOOB, and another 1 is from the Great Lakes TOOB. I've only reviewed 2 standalone arthropods. Broke down like that it doesn't seem as impressive to me.

OK I misread how you calculated taxonomy. I thought it was one tally per review, so the GLT would have one each for fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, mammal, and arthropod, rather than, say, two for birds. I guess had I acrually looked at the math I would have realized that LOL. I might be a professional scientist, but I hate math LOL

The GLT has 1 arthropod, 2 mammals, 1 reptile, 1 amphibian, 2 fish, and 3 birds so each one is counted in the tally. I wasn't sure how I wanted to approach TOOB reviews while doing my tallying but each figure in each TOOB is a distinct figure of a particular species so that's why I added it up that way. I hate math too, and it's the reason I'm NOT a professional scientist.
