Shouldn't this one be tagged as an action figure? Since it's articulated?

I don't really know what the definition of 'Action Figure' is on the forums and blogs, as it's never been discussed on the ATB. I always thought action figures were accessories to figures, accessories to figures, or playsets for some fictional genre (e.g. the saltwater crocodile from G.I. Joe currently on the ATB). I just went to the DTB and see most JP/JW toys are listed as Action Figure, but then again, they are essentially based on movie monsters.

I think making every animal toy that has an articulation an 'Action Figure' could get messy, that would start to include every crocodile or shark with a moveable jaw or an insect with moveable legs. For example, several F-toys stag beetles, which are what I would consider museum-quality replicas, may have articulated jaws. I would be very hesitant to reclassify them as 'action figures' just because they have articulations. Same goes for the Kaiyodo Revogeo figures! We haven't used Action Figure in this context yet and I don't really see a need to start at this point.

That could also be the Takara figures. I just never thought of them as Action figures.

QuoteA toy figure with jointed, movable limbs, representing a character in a cartoon, movie, etc., or a real person or animal, often one known for exciting action or extraordinary powers.

I always figured an action figure was a toy with moving parts. I wouldn't consider models with articulated jaws to be action figures though. Maybe @AnimalToyForum  has some thoughts?

Maybe the category needs to be 'articulated' instead of 'action'?

That's a great idea @sbell - I think we could have another classification for 'Articulated'. However, I don't think it should replace 'Figurine'. I think articulated figures could have both 'Figurine' and 'Articulated'.

Now, that being said, if we add this new classification, I will not being the one making edits. I still haven't gotten through all the Guest Reviews needing Range added (did three pages yesterday, though), plus adding Range to posts by reviewers that haven't been active in a while (Beetle Guy, Sirenia, etc.). I spend a lot of time managing the blog and forum, and I can't go through 1000+ blog reviews every time someone wants a new category, classification, etc. added. So, if we are going to do this, I suggested someone else with Blog access take this task. Thanks.

I also suggest we move this conversation to one of the threads involving Blog categories, changes, etc. :)

That's how I've always thought of an action figure - a toy with multiple moving parts.

There are always going to be grey areas. The ANIA armadillo could simply be categorised as both, I don't think that that would be a problem.

Or we could do that @bmathison1972 and then nothing has to change.

It would also then be left to the reviewer to decide if both are appropriate
