I have to admit, it will be exciting to have the entire MBA line reviewed. It's such an awesome and iconic collection, but at the same time it will be bittersweet when there are none left to review.

Gwangi

It will be a major milestone for the blog and I'm happy to have had the opportunity to review a few figures from the line.  I should get some champagne ready.

And the precursor Replica Toy Fish line (a slightly better one, TBH)

Of course! Unfortunately I wasn't collecting extant animals when RTF was a thing.  :-\

I want to point out that while the Safari brahman bull is tagged as Bos taurus indicus, I am tagging this one as Bos indicus, based on how the animal is classified on the ASM's Mammal Diversity Database.

@Gwangi - I will leave B. indicus as a tag, but added B. t. indicus too, so the two reviews can be linked by tags at the Latin name. Me personally, I put them all under B. taurus, but the nomenclature of domestic animals is a never-ending debate I don't plan on initiating here :) LOL. The Brahman is a particular challenge, because it is a hybrid of both taurine and indicine ancestry

It was very long considered that the old classification of zebus as a separate species from domestic cattle is obsolete and I render it totally invalid, I only knew this classification as a little child, then they merged and this was much before the Taxonomic Revolution and by reasonable means so I don't think there is any reason for considere zebus (and Ankole cattle) as different species than domestic cattle. They are all domestic cattle, as much as domestic and wild yaks are also the same species, and gaur and gayal are also the same species. More controversial is the classification of aurochs, it tends to be classified as the same species than domestic cattle nowadays but I still prefair to keep it separated as a different species.

I've never really been a proponent of classifying domestic animals as separate species from their wild ancestors. It especially doesn't make sense to classify European cattle and zebu cattle as two different species when they have the same ancestor, even if they derive from different subspecies of that ancestor. But I'm content to accept the ruling of the ASM vs. my own preferences. Zebu cattle are also classified as their own species in Bovids of the World (Princeton Field Guides), so, c'est la vie.

whatever is used it has to be consistent, so if people use tags as a search parameter, nothing is missed.

In that case, the Safari brahman should probably be edited to include a Bos indicus tag. Or I can just remove that tag from my review, despite the current classification.  O:-)

Ok ill add both to Safari, thanks!

And that's just one reason I do almost nothing with domestic anything...! ;)

@Birdsage - on the reserve list, we have you down for a sulfur-crested cockatoo. Is that a typo on my part, or were you going to review that one too? Just curious if I should remove it or not, thanks.
