Number 4 in the Ogasawara series is the Purple pincher hermit crab (Coenobita purpureus). This figurine measures roughly 6cm in length and is life-size. A very realistic looking figurine indeed!  ^-^

A great figurine - can you remove the base?

Yes, the hermit crab can be detached from the base.

This is the Japanese spider crab (Macrocheira kaempferi) by Kaiyodo from the Enoshima Aquarium series. The Japanese spider crab is called takaashigani in Japanese, which literally means 'tall legs crab'. This little figurine measures approximately 5cm long and is detachable from the base.

And for humour sake, the spindly legs and the underside remind me of a facehugger from Aliens!  ;D

Someone on our Facebook page pointed out that it looks a little like an alien face hugger, especially from below. hehe.

Excellent! :) I think I still prefer the Yujin Macrocheira kaepferi, but this one is also very good. And it's a girl! ;D

Yay, what a wonderful crustacean figure! :) The shell apparently belongs to a giant land snail, Achatina sp.

Thanks brontodocus! That's very interesting info! No wonder the shell reminded me of the large snails that are found where I live (Malaysia) after the rain. As kids, we used to sprinkle salt on the snails and then watch them sizzle and ooze :o

Wonderful miniature. The level of detail is amazing, overall the blue plates  ^-^.

Awesome figure, the detail of the limbs looks superb. :) They even made a completely segmented flagellum of the antenna 2 (the longest part of the two antennae)! :o

What a beautiful model. What scale is it - I suppose it is a tiny figure?

I love this figure. I have it but I still need the miniature version in the Galapagos TOOB. I keep wondering if a Kaiyodo Aquatales line will make one :)

brontodocus

I'd love to have the smaller Toob version, too. :) Should go great together with the IC Galapagos Marine Iguana, the Galapagos Toob Sally Lightfoot Crab could be in the same scale range (approx. 1:3 - 1:4).

Nice figure. I have it too (no surprises there). I love that she has eggs. It's one of at least 5-6 figures I have of this species (Kaiyodo and Epoch have done them too, in various color forms).

Kaiyodo original Animatales did one in orange, white, and possible blue. For their Birdtales line they did it in orange and blue (also gravid with eggs). I have Epoch's orange one and I think they also did a blue one.

My day job is a parasitologist at the CDC; this crab is a common source of lung fluke disease (Paragonimus westermanni).
