Unknown make.

bmathison1972

looks like a Frankenstein crab. Looks like someone took the Chap Mei giant spider crab and cut off two legs, as if it were a king crab. Six legs suggests something in the family Lithodidae, but I don't have time to hunt it down now.

Anybody got an ID for the Boley Anglerfish?

I'm thinking about buying it if it represents a specific taxon (like AAA's Angler is Bufocertias) , but if it then it just takes up space in my collection.

Looks like something in the genus Melanocetus, much like Safari's TOOB figure and possibly the 2022 CollectA figure.

And I'd also like an ID for this fish from Diramix

I'll defer to @sbell and @Halichoeres for ID on the Diramix fish :)

I recognize it but don't know what it's meant to be.

Diramix can be tricky to identify, plus their own identifications can be... suspect.

Gwangi

I would say it's definitely a frogfish, that's about as specific as I dare get.

stargatedalek

I'd say maybe a scorpionfish of some sort, the fins are broader than frogfish and not suspended on "stumps".

Isidro

When I saw the image I tough inmediately in the genus Eumicrotremus, but obviously the pelvic fins are totally wrong for that.

Halichoeres

I believe DeAgostini sold it as a reef stonefish (Synanceia verrucosa), and it's a reasonable shape for that. It's the wrong color, but I think you'll find that if you put it in the sun it will get a little closer to its color in life.

For now I think the best ID we have is the Leaf Scorpionfish Taenianotus triacanthus though the fins are a little too small

(I did research following @stargatedalek's reply)

And @Halichoeres , I'll see what happens when i put it in the sun

Gwangi

I suppose that makes more sense than a frogfish, what with those pectoral fins.

It's not a very realistic figure but I think it's the best match given general appareance.
Certainly much better match than Taenianotus triacanthus, that for me doesn't resemble the model.

I came up with a special ID for Collecta's Anglerfish. It's a Footballfish or Himantolophus paucifilosus

bmathison1972

I came up with the Atlantic footballfish (Himantolophus groenlandicus) as a differential early on. Pacific or Atlantic, it can go either way. I am probably going to pass on it. It's awfully big and I have the Colorata H. groenlandicus.

Speaking of which I thoroughly enjoyed your collection thread. My collection itself is mostly of dinosaurs, but recently I've been trying to capture a broader picture of life with other weird extinct animals like synapsids and modern animals.

Thank you Gecko08! The current daily 'Museum' one or the 'Synoptic Collection' one? (I am no longer updating the latter; all new figures go into the queue for the daily Museum post :) )
