Quote from: Saarlooswolfhound on March 29, 2025, 10:17:13 PMTo quote a favorite movie- You chose wisely! For the wolf!!! That is still the best wolf on the market and I'm.not sure it'll ever be topped.

Wonderful new models, congratulations! Especially on finally getting the clouded leopard. What do you think of the short faced bear?

That seemed to be the consensus on the wolf.
Papo kind of disappeared for a while and I couldn't get any -- unfortunately the flying squirrel sold out when I ordered, so it'll have to wait.

I like the bear. It's big, and has the weird proportions we'd expect. I personally like the colours as well. Kind of reflects the spectacled bear without just copying it.

I also really like the CollectA Arctodus; it's really good in-hand. I especially like the head. And I also find the color pleasing.

My mother collects frogs, and I always get her a bunch for Xmas/birthdays, so I picked up the Toymany set.

Minizoo recently reacquired Papo, so here's the lifelike Lizard in its new home at the bottom of a picture frame.

And I had to get a Muscovy Duck.

These are some recent-ish finds, some of them are more recent than others but I hadn't gotten around to posting much in a while (I think I got the sunfish late last year)

I couldn't not...

(the one with the tag is a Safari LTD doedicurus, the others all came with that Gemini & Genius packaging and nothing written on the underside)

Gemini and Genius is a weird one. They produce questionable figures... but also sell official boxed TNG figures...

Saarlooswolfhound

Hey! What do you think of the arsinoitherium and deinotherium? I won't be getting the glyptodont but its one of those things thats so bad it has an allure as a joke. I have a small cheap and weird figure of a humpback whale with a shark fin coming out of its dorsal side. Makes me laugh at the pitiable attempt for a "whaleshark". :*D

NSD Bashe

I think they're pretty cool actually, though I'm no expert at whether they're the most accurate renditions they could be, to my untrained eye they feel pretty decent.  Especially as there aren't too many other figures to compare them to.  They also feel pretty sturdy and reasonably detailed, I love them all especially the ridiculous one.  Might be tempted to get some of the other figures in the future.  And again, far more affordable than some other options.  Thanks again for pointing them out  ;D

I just ordered the Arsinoitherium from Lanatimeshop. The Earth Story Arsinoitherium looks more accurate than the CollectA one, but I'm gonna have to compare it in hand to see which is the least ugly. I just wish TNG would release their excellent version.

Some cute Bandai Machiboke gashapon I recently received as a gift. The shoebill and a pair of swallows. ^-^

Recently scored another grail I thought I'd share. Finally tracked down a Safari Smilodon Cub, even still had the hangtag!

My list of grails grows smaller. Currently still only trying to track down a Tennessee Aquarium Mudpuppy and Vanishing Wild Gemsbok.

Saarlooswolfhound

Congratulations @AnimalToyForum and @Shane! I think I saw the sale for the smilodon cub on ebay- huge congratulations on snagging it!

Thank you! It pays to stay vigilant on searches. There was no Buy It Now option so I had to monitor the auction, but I was triumphant.

It included an adult Smilodon as well, which I didn't need, but it's nice to have the set.

I've acquired the Bullyland goshawk and pink cockatoo!  I had given up looking for them, thinking I'd never find them and that if I did I would have to pay a high price for them...  But through some more searching, I found both new, from a site in the UK, and at less than £5 each!  I was amazed when I took them out of the box they came in today, finally having them...

... And...  I've also obtained a Papo gharial!  I had a thought of looking through Papo animal lots on ebay to see if any might have contained the gharial, and I did find one that did!  The figures were packed carefully and securely, but unfortunately they smell of curry. :(  I'll start another thread for getting rid of smells to try to find a solution.

MudpupWaterdog

Congrats on getting the gharial! Such a nice figure, it's a shame it's been retired so long and that nobody else has stepped up to make one (besides the Safari Toob figure, which would be great scaled up to standard-size someday).

Sim

Thanks, I just need to get rid of the curry smell!

Sim

So, now that I've got rid of the curry smell and am keeping my Papo gharial, I would like to comment on how it's a bigger figure than I expected it to be.  Its size is nice, and fitting as gharials are among the largest crocodilians.  It's currently my largest crocodilian figure and I look forward to having the Papo saltwater crocodile and seeing how it compares to them.

SerAndrew

I just received a bunch of Toymanys and I'm super happy.

They are not my first, I already have the penguins and sharks set, as well as the piglets. But it has been a while since I was interested in a new set because of the species choice.

I have to say I'm really surprised by the quality of these!! Not only in terms of sculpting but also painting, which I think has improved. Toymany is officialy (for me at least) among the big brands. I've read comments of collectors comparing them with Playvisions that used to sold sets, but Toymany's quality is way way superior.

So, what was in this package? I will post pictures later but:
- The entire Madagascar set: at first I was thinking in adding all except the frog (because of size), the reptiles (size, mostly) and the ring tail and ruffed because I already have the species. Then, after I made the purchase and after checking other's photos, I started doubting about the tenrec and the bamboo, they seemed a bit off to me. But after receiving them! Wow! I included all the mamals, even the repeated ones, and also made a spot for the frog and brookesia. I'll need to justify the size in my collection somehow, but I'll figure it out.
- Some puppies: camel, white sitting wolf, brown standing wolf, cougar and gorilla. These are amazing! Way better than in pictures as well.
- Lemming: this one is adorably tiny!
- Black sitting jaguar: ok, this one was a biiiiiit of a dissapointment, is smaller than expected and the eyes on mine are a bit weird.

But all in all, I'm super happy with this! Btw, among this bunch there's the 1000th figure of my "official" collection. Given the fossa was suggested by me here and kindly noted down by @Kenc , I'll consider that to be my 1000.

Thanks!

Fembrogon

A big box arrived from @brettnj yesterday with an assortment of goodies - mostly prehistoric or kaiju, but a few extant critters were included too:

More Ikimono Encyclopedia! Three armadillo lizards and a fat-tailed gecko.
