Walk-around of the Papo Marine Life 56022 Leatherback Turtle, Dermochelys coriacea (Vandelli, 1761). Length of the carapace is 68 mm in direct line (or 72 mm along the curve), corresponding to a scale between approx. 1:15 and 1:35 for a mature individual (recorded carapace lengths between approx. 1.0 and 2.56 m).
The human figures are approx. 1:35 scale (paleontologist from the Tamiya Dinosaur Diorama injection model kits), 1:32 - 1:35 (diver from Safari Ltd Coral Reef Toob), and approx. 1:22.5 - 1:24 (Safari Ltd Freddie the Free Diver), respectively. Although currently still decreasing globally, conservation efforts have apparently begun to pay off and IUCN expects a world wide population increase of over 100% by 2040. As a consequence, in 2013 IUCN downgraded the Leatherback Turtle from "Endangered" (1986-1996) and "Critically Endangered" (2000) to "Vulnerable".

I hadn't heard of the downgrade, it feels a bit premature to me

Now in my hands! I bought it today at a store. It's a fantastic figurine, I love the accurateness of the eye position and the double toothed beak (absent in some other figurines of the species in other brands). It's my first reptile too (I have not much to choose in reptiles since most figurines are too large for my scale acceptance). I'm happy, yay!

Beetle guy

To beetle or not to beetle.

A really good figure by Papo. I got this figure at Hamleys shop and got it free after it didn't have a bar code, so the clerk gave it me for free.   ;D
Don't I take long uploading photos!

Lucky boy!
I've found it for sale in a shop, and after that I've learned that was retired, so I'm glad to have it. In my opinion it's the best leatherback turtle of any brand!
