I am a medical doctor, working on a project that takes CT scans of animal skulls (and other bones) and uses radiology and 3D modeling software to convert them into beautiful sculptures in plastic, stainless steel, bronze and silver.  Perhaps you would be interested in hearing more about the project.  I have a Kickstarter project here:  http://kck.st/19uUDNC  and I just set up shop here: http://www.From-Nature-To-Art.com   I would be delighted to hear from you.

Really interesting idea. I find skeletal anatomy to be very beautiful, and I like the Caiman skull. I hope you'll do more reptile anatomy in future.

They came flying from far away, now I'm under their spell....

yes, great idea. I recently worked as part of a project at the British Geological Survey, 3D scanning important fossil specimens (http://www.3d-fossils.ac.uk/). The scans can then be shared, or printed out, for educational or research purposes.

Perhaps souvenirs such as these might be a way to help fund the project and make it more sustainable.  :)

On the downside, it is probably just a matter of time before this technology is used to plagiarise/pirate sculptures. That could have implications for the world of animal toys.

Anyhow, good luck with your project!

Looks like a very nice project and all my best wishes for your project, too! :) Yes, with the rapid development in 3d scanning and printing technology, I wouldn't be surprised if the technique has already been used to plagiarise sculptors' intellectual property... :-\
But of course using CT scans of skulls and printing these as jewellery or souvenirs is a brilliant idea, so good luck! :)
