for the mako shark, either Safari or CollectA would be better. They have their own issues, but the promo pics of this Papo version looks like a modified GWS!

For the puffin, either Papo or CollectA's recent appear to be better, based on these promo pics (that being said, the Mojo announcement is a fairly nice puffin).

does look better than their Previous great white and if you want a mako you can also consider the toymany one if you're impatient

Quote from: Koifish on November 25, 2023, 05:10:41 PMSo far, the figures I want the most revealed for 2024 are from Eikoh Minatureplanet. But other than that...

Papo:
African Lion (I'm content with my Schleich pair, but depending on the size, I wouldn't mind having one to represent another subspecies, like the Barbary for instance)
Clouded Leopard
Eagle owl
Albino peacock
Scarlet Ibis
Mountain goat
African porcupine

Papo maybe's (depends on their size):
Mako Shark (unless Safari has a better one)
Caiman
Poison Dart frog
Florida red-eared slider
Iguana
Musk ox
Moose cow

Collecta:
Giant anteater
Alpine ibex
Elk (maybe)
Proboscis monkey (depends on size)

Mojo:
Puffin (depends on how it looks in person, unless there is a better puffin)

Eikoh Minatureplanet:
lion cub
Rockhopper penguin
Mongoose
Sand cat
Tortoise
Rattlesnake (maybe)
Marine Iguana
Monkey

For the mako shark here's my 2 cents on the Makos available:

CollectA: suffers from pectoral fins slightly being too wide, tiny gill slits and some copies have a proportionally small caudal fin, though the Lateral keel is present

Safari: suffers from being too skinny and lacking the caudal keel. Teeth may be an issue too.

Papo. From what I see, the body looks fine and there's a nice caudal keel but I do wish it could be more bluish.

Toymany: Modified collectA but with the proportions gotten right and it has claspers though nostrils are hard to pick out and looks like they're non existent and is smaller than the others.

Overall it's up to your personal preference to which figure you like more and if you can live with these minor inaccuracies

The '24 CollectA Elk is my most wanted figure for this upcoming year. Too bad it doesn't come out til mid-2024.

Despite this, these are my rankings for 2024 based on the number of figures I want from each.
1) Papo
2) Schleich
3) CollectA

bmathison1972

Changing my ibex from Schleich to CollectA. Not crazy about CollectA's pose, but the more in-hand pics I see of Schleich's, the less I am interested in it.

bmathison1972

I just went through and looked at what I have gotten this year and what I intend to get, and these are breakdowns:

1. New species: 33
2. New breed of a domestic species I have: 1
3. Replaces things I have: 8
4. Additional figures of species I already have: 21

Halfway through the year and already 33 new species for me. We are lucky companies keep putting out new species for us!

Of the 21 species I already have examples of, about half of them are arthropods I only have 1-2 versions of. Among the other half, some of them I didn't need, but it was often cheaper to get a set and keep the by-catch than buy the one or few I wanted. The Bandai Ladybug and Mini Crustacean sets accounted for several of these. Some may end up getting purged eventually anyway.

Gotta wait on Papo to release their two primates. Won't be available until late December this year.

bmathison1972

Yesterday four taxa by Haolonggood showed up in the mail! Was able to check them off! But, today I added their Saichania to my list.

Updated my post with four YES by Safari and one MAYBE.

EDIT: make that five YES with the announcement of the Saltasaurus.

#31
Safari Mahi-mahi
CollectA cuttlefish
Schleich hyacinth macaw

(still want to grab the Safari African grey parrot at some point, but I think that technically counts as last year even though it might've come out at the beginning of this year? )

Yes. I have it under 2023 since that is the production year, even though it was released in early 2024.

bmathison1972

As we get closer to year's end, I went through my wish list early in the thread and here's the updated breakdown of what I plan on getting:

New species: 55 [10 of these are fungi, which I just started adding about a year ago]
New breeds of existing domestic species: 2
Replacements: 9
Additions of arthropods I already have: 22 [10 of these come from 2 sets of mini arthropods out of Japan, both of which I almost didn't pursue]

bmathison1972

I am going back and added the Papo clouded leopard to my list. Someone pointed out, and I think they make a valid point, the color patterns of the Papo clouded leopard look more like the Sunda species rather than the mainland type species. I have the Safari figure to represent the latter.

EpicRaptorMan

Not sure if that's a big enough deal for me to acquire it. But it does look good.
