Winghead shark redone

Very long time ago I did a winghead shark (Eusphyra blochii), probably my favourite shark species, as it combinates an exceptional and very distinctive appareance with being very obscure and unknown. It resulted a very poor model, with evident cracks in the skin, and overall, I did it with very wrong proportions. It just looked a normal hammerhead shark, with a small hammer and big body. But winghead sharks are so unique because the hammer can be even as long as the body in the youngest ones. I liked how resulted the hammer and also the fins were good, I just need to replace the body by a much smaller one. Yesterday I dare finally to do that.

This is the original model:

I cut the head and fins:

I made a much smaller new body:

I attached the head and fins to the new body. Much easier to say than to do! Irregular surface of the fins was very difficult to fit perfectly into the body surface, and droping fins was a common issue, having to reattach again.

The result is not perfect, the skin was not smooth, especially around the attachment points of fins, but anyway also the original model had a skin with cracks, so is still an improvement. Also, the new body allowed me a more dynamic position, gently waving laterally.

For better comparison together, the new one (above) and the old one (below):

THIS. IS. FANTASTIC!!!  This is a species that needs more attention; glad to see you tackling it!!

Glad you liked it :) I still improved a bit more the final result some months after, trying to correct the skin cracks and bumps of the initial remake. Now is a much better model

Yeah, the bumps and cracks definitely take away from it, but I think it is an overall improvement and good practice for future endeavors.

If you take another swing at it I'd be interested to see version 3.0

That's what I just said I did :)
