So I remember hearing that Eurypharynx pelecanoides was a Pelican Eel instead of a Gulper Eel, but I thought that the two terms were interchangeable.

They are. Also heard them be called "Umbrella Mouthed Eels"

I prefer the common name "Gulper Eel" anyway

These are common names, and common names have no rules, but generally speaking the name of Pelican eel is applied to Eurypharynx pelecanoides while Gulper Eel is applied to members or the family Saccopharyngidae. Same order, different family. So pelican eel and gulper eels are as related as bears with felines. Eurypharynx pelecanoides is sometimes called Pelican gulper eel instead just Pelican eel.

Would the Colorata "gulper eel" classify as a Pelican Eel (Eurypharynx pelecanoides) or a Gulper Eel (from Saccopharyngidae)?
