Disapointments in Figures

Have you ever purchased a figure that isn't the right size, colour etc. I certainly have but I keep them nevertheless, but not if it's giant or tiny. I have been surprised with sizes such as the Maia & Borges sea otters, the Papo wolf cub was nothing like the promo pics colours. Anyone else disappointed or annoyed with certain figures you've purchased?!

I have had random figures where the paint job wasn't as good as promotional pics. Some that come to mind are the CollectA koala (on the tree), Papo peregrine falcon, CollectA skunk. With paint jobs, earlier releases tend to be better, so get figures the year they are released! I kept all of them. I have contemplated replacing the koala with something smaller but it is low priority.

With regards to size, the Papo pelican and Safari honey badger were both much bigger than expected and have been replaced (by Schleich and Mojo Fun, respectively). The Mojo fun spotted eagle ray is a bit big but it's nice. I might replace it with the Safari figure, if the latter comes along conveniently, but again, it's not a priority. My rays are all over the map with size.

I was surprised by the small size of Kaiyodo serval when I received it, but I kept it anyway for my collection. Papo elephant seal is also tiny, tough I also kept. Joy City pygmy hog was so tiny (and also not good quality) that I had to reject it. There are other figures probably. Anyway, I always try to know previously the size of each figure before purchase it. Other disappointments can come from bad painting (f. e. Safari LTD toob chinstrap penguin, that I repainted, and overall the Papo snow leopard, with an horrendous paintjob soooo different from the promo image that I was seriously questioning to return it to seller, but finally I kept and repainted), bended legs (such as in my CollectA mountain nyala), or very noticeable seams (in Kaiyodo figures).

The CollectA saola is different from the promo image too. The figure one receive have an arched back, more curved horns, more linear white marks on face. Promo picture have a sunken back, straight horns, rounder white spots. Not exactly disappointing because the figure received is not bad, tough I would prefair straight horns and rounder markins but keeping the arched back.

The same day you posted this, I (purely coincidentally) took the Papo elephant seal off my wishlist due to its small size.

The Papo snow leopard seems to vary very highly in paintjob quality; it seems I was one of the lucky collectors who got the more decently painted (probably older) version.

yes, the Papo snow leopard has been the topic of many-o-discussion on the forums. Mine isn't as good as the promo pics, but it is still pretty nice, so  I am happy with it (besides the sculpt is perfect)

I had intended to give the Southlands Replicas platypus to my son's animal collection, but it's way too small.

Isidro

In the contrary hand, this is the only of the many platypuses done by several brands, with decent size for my collection. All others are too big for me :P

Right now, I'm preparing for potential disappointment in the Cave Dwellers Toob, as the figures could have either the decent old paintjobs or the tacky new ones; if it's the latter, then that's my answer to this thread.

My Big Disapointment in a figure has to do with PNSOs Meerkat
http://animaltoyforum.com/index.php?topic=2475.0
As you can see in the thread i created for it, its fatal flaw is that it cannot stand properly at all. this is because the model was made out of a Very Pliable Plastic, and the legs are too flexeible to keep it standing.

I boght the model as a Gift for a Friend of mine in South Africa, and so it is no longer in my posession. But it just pains me that PNSO would Create a Replica with such issues.

@Badger how did you buy it? I bought mine on eBay so it was the old style 'as shown in the images'. If you bought from Safari directly, you will probably get the newer translucent ones.

Advicot

As I've mentioned before my 2014 male lion from Papo had a strange mishap. A purple underside!!! Has anyone come across this in their lion figure?
It is not easy to see unless you put it in daylight. Any reasons why they may of painted a lion of all animals purple!  ???

I bought it on eBay; as far as I know Safari Ltd don't ship outside of North America.

I believe they do @Badger but for a high shipping cost. Don't quote me on this though. This was 2016, times may have changed.

Quote from Safari Ltd's FAQs:

Quote5. How can I get free shipping on my order?

All retail orders that are $100 and up with a U.S. shipping address receive free shipping! Orders under $100 receive a flat rate shipping and handling cost of $9.99. Shipping to Canada uses calculated FedEx rates at checkout. Shipping to other international addresses is currently not available.
