Looks very promising. :) Although, it's not the first time Architeuthis has been filmed alive - a few years back one was attracted by bait and then filmed:

BTW: Kubodera has been involved in both observations. And the one previously documented lost a tentacle during observation while trying to free itself from the bait.

Ah, I remember watching a program about that.  I was under the impression though that this new find is actual video, while Kubodera's first finding was a series of photographs.  Either way, Kubodera is one lucky scientist! :))

Yes, it wasn't a true video sequence but photographs were taken every 30 seconds over a period of several hours. Oh, but apparently Kubodera has filmed another one in 2006, too. :o

Just finished watching the giant squid documentary. No words. Stunning, absolutely gorgeous. Now we need to film the colossal squid.

I watched the program last night!  Truely incredible footage!  When I saw the release photos a few weeks ago, I thought it was caught on a hook just like the ones that had been photographed in the past, but this was a free swimming animal! :o

Also, anyone else notice that they were using a MBA Giant Squid as a prop. ;)
