ive been meaning to replace my collectA narwhal with the safari ltd one but havent really caught up, thus i would like to confirm which narwhal is the best before carrying out the decision

papo

pros: overall great sculpt though the tooth is too thick

cons: tooth is white despite being more brownish in life, one flipper is thinner than the other, main body is black even tho grey is more lifelike in pics ive seen

collectA

pros: brownish tooth, easily affordable

cons: mottled patterns too fine esp in newer production releases, eyes are wierd at least on mine, i feel flippers are too elongated

Safari LTD

pros: overall well done body plan

cons: tusk should be brownish, patterning could be more refined

Interesting. I had a tough time initially picking a narwhal. I went with CollectA based on color and size, and I doubt I'll replace it anytime soon.

Gwangi

This is yet another species I've had trouble picking.

There's an Accoutrements narwhal that's not all that accurate though it's kind of hilarious

I own the Safari narwhal and though I have often thought of replacing it I don't think I will. It's an elegant model despite the painting inaccuracies and I think that sculpt wise it looks far better than CollectA or Papo, and the coloring doesn't upset me too much. It is perhaps a bit large though!
Always looking for new species...

Not sure if there are guidelines to how this thread works but one of my buyers gifted me with the Kaiyodo Aqualand narwhal several years ago.

It is gorgeous, a serious desktop/bookshelf type resin figure.

oo could u email me the pics?

Isidro

I guess you mean this one, just take in account that the size is much smaller than the western brand ones.

brettnj

No, the Kaiyodo resin Aqualand. I don't have photo hosting but you could Google Image it.

FYI, I was very excited about that CQ, Isidro, until I saw how poorly it was painted compared to the prototype/flyer images.

An extremely rare case of my being disappointed by a Kaiyodo figure.

Thanks.

Ah yeah this one, I was unaware of its existence. It's an impressive sculpt, especially the thin tusk, very well proportioned as in the real animal.

EpicRaptorMan

I have Papo. I like it.
My one "complaint" would be that there seems to be too much black paint when it should be lighter/more speckled.

The older Safari Monterey Bay Aquarium figures were nicer than they are currently.  Mine is from 1999 or 2000 and has a brown tooth (I believe) and much finer, more nuanced speckling.  The tooth may be grayish, actually, but that is a very minor complaint, if true.  The current figure looks more toyish, imo, but is still a very nice figure.  I like CollectA and Papo, as well; however, both have thick teeth for obvious reasons.  Ultimately, there are a few quality Narwhal figures available, and you can't go wrong with any of them.
