I've been considering moving on for a long while now. I've been out of space for months and I've finally made the choice to sell off everything.

I'm leaving animal/dinosaur figure collecting, probably for good. And I need this stuff gone.

I'm very sorry to read this. This is much more than just an array of objects. Your collection is part of your life history, you developed an style, a taste for collecting. It's quite difficult that any collector will take the whole collection - probably eBay, Aliexpress or Amazon can give you better potential buyers- but if there is the minimal possibility of get your collection stored anywhere - the house of a familiar maybe, or even rental of a storage room - I would try to keep it until you can host it again.

Well it is sad in a way, but also understandable.  I used to be an avid dinosaur collector, but at some point I just had too much and even started feeling depressed from it, like it lost its sense of purpose for me and I pretty much decided to get rid of everything.  Some things that didn't get sold just ended up in the basement, but most of it I purged.  And at the time I needed that.  I was more reluctant to get rid of certain figures at first, like a few deep sea fish I had, but ultimately I even gave those away. 

Years later I started regretting having gotten rid of the deep sea fish and actually started looking for them again.  There are a couple figures I wish I had kept that I can't find yet, but for the most part I was able to find them again, and got in the habit of collecting again--but a bit more reserved than before, mainly looking for certain types of figures such as deep sea fish and carnivorous plants and a few other scattered things.  But having a long break from it I feel was good for my mental health, and when I did go back to it staying more focused on finding particular things not only made it more fun in a way it gave it more of a sense of meaning almost (and probably costs a lot less and takes a little less room).  Also having gotten rid of everything mostly made me later on more aware of which things I regretted giving up and which I was fine having moved on from. 

I guess my advice would be, try not to feel too sad about it, since you feel you need to move on you probably know what's best for yourself and it will likely be a huge sense of relief not to have to worry about it anymore...  But if there are any figures in particular you have particular sentiment toward or just feel the least sure giving up, maybe don't get rid of just those ones.  Even if you give up collecting as a whole it's okay to keep a few of your favorite ones, and may even regret giving those up later.

And if ever things change, there's no shame in coming back to it and starting over, can be fun even, like reliving a tiny bit of your childhood in a way, but wiser.  Anyway good luck, moving on can feel scary at first but it's not a bad thing in itself.

Those are true and kind words! I started to collect insect figurines in 2011. Around 2014 I also started to collect other arthropods and amphibians.
In 2017 I collected many things I regret having collected. I was becoming a completist. That gave a rather depressing touch to my collecting. So from 2019 on I started to purge my collection. Keeping only very realistic figurines (always my aim collecting amphibians). The boost of very realistic insect figurines from for example Bandai since 2020 showed me that I could leave the ones I did not really want with ease, even though they were 200% more realistic that what I used to collect.
Collecting is now fun again spending a whole lot less money and time on it but getting truly amazing figurines.

Last year I started purging a lot of arthropods from my collection (primarily from Japanese companies) make room for more species of non-arthropods. Now, I only collect arthropods from Japanese companies if they are 1) new species, 2) rarely made (I have <3 of them), or 3) a marked improvement over what I already have. I still collect duplicate species from CollectA, Papo, etc, as I want to encourage Western companies to make them.

Even as more from the aforementioned Bandai sets get released, I can easily say 'no' to many of them

Yeah, I think we all must have our own set of rules to keep collecting fun. I'm only a completist for plesiosaurs, excluding plush toys. That way, it always feels like I might actually achieve the objective of 'completing' a collection, which is part of the fun of being a collector. I'm close to being a completist for other fossil marine reptile figures but not quite, as I'm happy to let the odd one pass me by.

Other than that, I pretty much restrict my collecting of animal and dinosaur toys to special occasions. I'll always pick one up as a souvenir/memento in a museum shop or on a holiday somewhere, it's good to have memories connected to the things we collect, it gives them sentimental value. That's something the rise of online shopping makes difficult. I'll also occasionally order an animal figure if the species has a special meaning to me for some reason. But generally, I'm quite a restrained collector.
