Changing Papo B/W Ruffed Lemur into Red Ruffed Lemur

I have a B/W Ruffed lemur, but I would like the Red species too, Varecia rubra.

I'm not worried about the repaint as I'm confident I can achieve it, but I would hate having two identical molds. I was thinking about cutting off the Lemur's tail, and reattaching it in a different position (pointing downwards). How doable would this be do y'all think?
