Review of set of 5 jellyfish (Qualia, JOIN Collection).



The bases of any 4 figures join together to form a mini-diorama.
For no apparent reason, that leaves a fifth figure as odd man out.

The label is in Japanese, and the figures unmarked. Luckily the same species were included in a set of jellyfish by Nature Technicolor, that lists the scientific names. The NTC figures have straps, and are about twice the size of the Qualia figures. For example, the diameter of the upside-down species by Qualia is about 17 mm, while the one by NTC is 36 mm. Ikimon also wins for detail. Of course, standing figures are easier to display.

Thanks I was debating about this set vs. other gashapons as well, but I like how they are presented so even though the detail is not quite as good, I think the presentation wins out! Also it looks as though there are various options on a base to mount a figure?

The base is pie-shaped. The blue stream of bubbles snaps onto the back of the base. It would be possible to mix those parts differently than how they come packaged with each species. A fragile plastic rod is cast as part of each jellyfish to attach it to the steam of bubbles. Once jointed, best to leave it be.

Besides a larger size, the Kitan set has 8 species. If you buy just one set, that makes the decision more difficult.

My sea turtle collection suffers from overpopulation. The Qualia sea turtles are nice, but I decided to pass.
Perhaps another member will do a review.

I just got this set; did you notice there are a couple holes on the bubble tower, so the jellyfish can be displayed at different heights?

The label for the Qualia jellyfish shows the Cassiopea or upside-down jellyfish attached to the lower of the two holes. The figure would be better illustrated with the bell underneath the animal instead of above it, in other words upside down. That orientation allows sunlight for photosynthesis by symbiotic dinoflagellates. See photo in introduction of this thread.
