Zebra, Stallion Laughing (AAA)

The days are long, it’s getting warm, there is colour in the trees. It must be summer. And as that’s the case, we see the return of my theme seasons. Welcome, once again, to my “Savanah Summer”!!! Once again. I will travel across Africa, from the Serengeti to the Congo, from plains to coasts, showing figures representing the best this amazing and diverse continent has to offer. Once again, I am going to look at one of my all time favourite animals, the Zebra, by AAA.

As with many AAA models, discerning a species for this model is tricky, as it is only called a zebra. Sites have managed to work it out though, revealing this to be the mid-sized zebra species, the Plains Zebra (Equus quagga). It is fairly common, hence it’s other name of the Common Zebra, seen in harems across the plains of southern Africa.

Here, we see a magnificent stallion (and yes, this is most definitely a male!) which, as the model is described, is laughing. I’d call it braying, or using it’s Jacobson’s organ, or reaching for food, but it’s whatever you like really. For me, it was always one of my favourite zebra models in my youth, likely due to this rather different pose. It measures 6.5″ long and 4.5″ high, so a decent size.

This has been a little nostalgia trip of one of my favourite childhood models, and I hope I have shown how great it is. It’s a different pose for zebras, great for a collector looking for variety in their herd. Despite it’s age, the paint holds up well too. It is discontinued, so best to hunt eBay, and @(bias as this statement may be) I think it’s worth the look. Now, on with the “Savanah Summer”!
