White Rhinoceros, 1996 (Wild Safari Wildlife by Safari Ltd.)

Another ride out on the “Savanah Summer” and we cover a figure of the last of the Big Five African mammals for me to review, the Rhino. In this case, it is the largest of the rhinos, the White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum). There are two subspecies, the more common southern and the near extinct northern, now with only two individuals remain. They are endangered, as poachers hunt them for their horn. These beautiful animals need protection, and with models being one way to teach that to children. Here, we see an individual from 1996 by Safari Ltd.

Despite being an older figure, it’s pretty decent, well sculpted and moulded. I have had this figure a very long time (as you can probably tell) but it is still going well, with some flaking on the body despite being over twenty years old. It’s accurately painted and looks like the animal, pretty decent.

The pose is pretty basic, just standing, looking down, perhaps eating or drinking, not much more to it, though it does show off the impressive build of the rhino. It is a decent size, measuring 5.8″ long and 2.5″ high, so will fit with a good number of lines.

Despite the age, this is a nice figure, a lot of fun to play with and a good stand in for the species. It is long discontinued, and a number of better figures have been made, but if you want it, eBay is going to be the best place to find it. Let the “Savanah Summer” roll on!!!
