Zebra, Pair (Noah’s Pals by Caboodle! Toys LLC)

Well, we are in June, the temperature is rising and the weather is becoming sunnier. To celebrate the season, I will be looking into the animals that live on one of the hottest continents on earth, Africa. From the Sahara to the Serengeti, from the Congo to Botswana, I will be reviewing animals from across this amazing place. Welcome to the first review of my “Savanah Summer”!! Starting off, I’m gonna review a set of one of my favourite animals from my childhood, the zebra!!

Specifically, these are plains zebras (Equus quagga), mid-sized zebras, as the Grevy’s is the largest and mountain the smallest. Also called common zebra, they are found over south and east Africa, south of the Sahara, they have broader stripes than the other two species, and have several subspecies of them. This pair is one of the three equids of the Noah’s Pals line, along with the Thoroughbred horses and the donkeys. Let’s take a closer look……..

Lets start with the stallion, Zachary. And what a fine one he is, very well sculpted and painted here. He is a decent size, measuring 3.1″ high and 3.8″ long, good for mid to smaller lines, or any at the 1:24 scale. It’s quite an elegant, upright pose, perhaps looking out over the herd, though the foot work can be irritating. The one raised hoof is ok, but the feet being so close together means that the slightest warping will result in it falling over. Perhaps a bit of a stretch for a pose at this scale, but still nice.

Next to our mare, the lovely Zoe. Though she has the same foot work of Zachary, the greater distance between hooves means she stands more easily than him. The head looking down works, as if checking out something or looking for food. She measures 4″ long and 3″ high, going well with Zachary and the rest of the line.

This is quite a pleasant set, decently sculpted and very well painted. I may be biased towards any zebra, but I do think this is worth getting. It is part of the common line, so was produced in unlimited numbers, and can be found on eBay fairly easily. If you see it for a reasonable price, grab it. Now, to gallop on with the “Savanah Summer”!!!
