Piranha (Safari Ltd - Incredible Creatures)
« on: February 11, 2014, 02:51:43 PM »
This is a walk-around of the new 2014 Safari Ltd Incredible Creatures Piranha, Pygocentrus sp. Total length (TL, i.e. including caudal fin) is 120 mm and standard length (SL, i.e. without caudal fin) is 107 mm. The figure shows characteristic traits of both the Red Piranha, Pygocentrus nattereri Kner, 1858 and San Francisco Piranha, Pygocentrus piraya (Cuvier, 1819), e.g. the reddish eyes are more typical for P. nattereri while the soft rays in the adipose fin would suggest P. piraya instead. Both species have not been evaluated by IUCN, yet. Anyway, since the figure's silhouette is not circular it was probably built after an individual that was not yet fully mature. So the scale may be around 1:2 as Safari Ltd wrote even though mature individuals of both species can get considerably larger.

Awesome walk-through as always Andre  ;) I am so happy there's bigger sized piranha figure (I've been wishing for one since I was a kid).

Thanks, Kevin & Jetoar! :) While I haven't been waiting for one for that long I must confess I've been wanting a good Piranha figure for a few years now.

I'm glad you like it, too, Helge! :) Definitely a figure worth getting and it didn't even try to bite me. ;D
