Walk-around of the Safari Ltd Wings of the World American White Pelican, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos Gmelin, 1789. The figure was apparently retired quite recently, it's not in the 2014 catalogue, anymore (but it may still be in stock at many retailers). Because it's otherwise difficult to measure properly I took two standard measurements for birds: wing chord (45 and 48 mm, respectively) and beak length (24 mm) so the scale is approx. 1:11 - 1:16. A huge seabird (though not the largest Pelecanus species), the American White Pelican may reach a wing span of up to 3 m. Since the global population may be approx. 180,000 with an increasing population trend IUCN considers it "Least Concern".
The human figure (European Father by Miniland Los Amigos del Mundo) is approx. 1:13 to 1:14 scale.

Lovely figure, one of the best figures of this bird currently. Definetly Schleich have done a great work with this replica and it is one of the best birds of its brand from my point of view. I think that it will be a good couple for Papo version  ^-^.

Probably, but this one here is not a Schleich, it's Safari Ltd WoW. :)

That's true, I've just seen it in the new Schleich catalogue and was puzzled how similar it is (and that Schleich also used the same species)! :)

Thank you again for the informations. I am happy that a specialist like you give all us that. It will help me for my future plan to specifie all my figurines  :)

                      Balaeniceps rex - Shoebill
                                  (my favourite modern Dinosaur!)

:)  Now there are three Japanese figures (Kaiyodo, Phat!, Eikoh).
I wish CollectA would also make one.

....... it has a moveable head:

Nice figure from a nice series of non-Asian species by Kaiyodo  :o !

I was thinking it's been a while since we have seen a walkaround; I was going to do one or a couple this weekend myself!

brontodocus

Ah, what a gorgeous little Shoebill figure! :D It may become my favourite representative of the species, the bill looks better proportioned than that of the Phat! version.

Sigh, I should do a few more, too. :-\ I already have photos for lots of new walk-arounds but there were always other things in the way to actually post them.

Jetoar

Definetly, Kaiyodo has done a good choice with this species  ^-^.

Walk-around of the CollectA Wild Life Shoebill, Balaeniceps rex Gould, 1850; item No. 88763, new for 2016. Finally, there is a good shoebill figure by a major toy figure company that is easily obtainable (the species has been featured by several Japanese companies before, including the rare Phat! Doki Doki Doubutu Shoebill). Standing height of the figure without base is approx. 77 mm and bill length is 16 mm so the scale is between approx. 1:12 and 1:15. Human figure (South American Father by Miniland "Los Amigos del Mundo") is approx. 1:13 - 1:14 scale. The global population of this unique bird is decreasing and it has been estimated that only approx. 3300 to 3500 mature individuals are remaining. As a consequence, IUCN lists the species as "Vulnerable".

Comparison with the Phat! Doki Doki Shoebill:

Definetly, I want this figure in my collection. Shoebill is really strange and atractive at the same time  ^-^.

Very nice walk around! I really like this premiere non-Japanese figure, although the paintjob could be a bit better.
:) Here's my little Shoebill family:

Many thanks, Jetoar and Helge! :) That's a great comparison shot that shows those CapsuleQ Shoebills seem to be bigger than I had expected. :o :)

This thread is about the order of these medium-sized and large waterbirds that have feet with all four toes webbed.
The Pelecaniformes consists of the families .....

-  Ardeidae (herons)
-  Threskiornithidae (ibises and spoonbills)
-  Scopidae (Hamerkop)
-  Pelecanidae (pelicans)

:)  I hope I'm going to see some of these here. I'm starting with the few I have.
