As on the dinotoyforum (http://www.dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,763.0.html) I thought it would be interesting to initiate a thread for species that have only been portrayed as figures by a single company. If there are too many for a single thread then we can split the thead into taxonomic groups. No breeds! Just unique species :)

Edit. This is now the anura thread. Feel free to open threads for other groups :)

I guess this may mostly apply to the most obscure species. That will probably be harder than for prehistoric animals. I might contribute one species or another ;).

Hmmm... just a few... maybe it would be a good idea to arrange them taxonomically rather than in alphabetical order?

Anurans:

Bombina orientalis - (Chinese Fire-bellied Toad) - Yujin Frogs Pictorial Book

Bufo gargarizans miyakonis (Miyako Toad) - Furuta / Kaiyodo Animatales
Rhinella marina (formerly Bufo marinus, Aga or Cane Toad) - Safari Ltd. Venomous Creatures Toob
Pseudepidalea (formerly Bufo) viridis (European Green Toad) - Nature's Wonders HD

Rhinoderma darwinii (Darwin's Frog) - Colorata Tropical Rainforest Frogs Box

Dendrobates galactonotus (Splash-backed Poison Frog, mislabelled "Dendrobates pumilio") - Epoch (does anybody know the correct name of that venomous animals set?)
Oophaga granulifera (formerly Dendrobates granuliferus, Granular Poison Frog) - Kitan Club Nature Techni Colour Poison Dart Frogs
Ranitomeya fantastica (formerly Dendrobates fantasticus, Red-headed Poison Frog) - K&M
Ranitomeya ventrimaculata (formerly Dendrobates ventrimaculatus, Reticulated Poison Frog) - Kitan Club Nature Techni Colour Poison Dart Frogs

Hemiphractus proboscideus - Yujin Frogs Pictorial Book

Hyla cinerea (American Green Tree Frog) - Safari Ltd. (does anybody know which line they originally belong to?)
Litoria aurea (Green and Golden Bell Frog) - Cadbury Yowies
Litoria caerulea (White's Treefrog) - Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures (unfortunately this is a "flocked" figure)
Dendropsophus ebraccatus (formerly Hyla ebraccata, Hourglass Tree Frog) - Nature's Wonders HD
Trachycephalus (=Phrynohyas) resinifictrix (Amazonian Milk Frog)

Microhyla okinavensis (Okinawa Rice Frog) - Kitan Club Nature Techni Colour Frogs
Kaloula pulchra (Asian Painted Frog)- Yujin Frogs Pictorial Book
Dyscophus guineti (Tomato Frog) - Colorata Tropical Rainforest Frogs Box
†Rheobatrachus silus (Gastric-brooding Frog) - Cadbury Yowies

Notaden weigeli (Weigel's Toad) - Cadbury Yowies
Limnodynastes fletcheri (Long-thumbed Frog) - Cadbury Yowies
Kaloula pulchra (Asian Painted Frog)- Yujin Frogs Pictorial Book

Heterixalus rutenbergi (Rutenberg's Reed Frog) - Colorata Tropical Rainforest Frogs Box
Hyperolius argus (Boror Reed Frog) - Colorata Tropical Rainforest Frogs Box
Hyperolius marmoratus (Painted Reed Frog) - Colorata Tropical Rainforest Frogs Box

Pelophylax nigromaculatus (formerly Rana nigromaculata, Spotted Pond Frog) - Yujin The Frogs in Colour
Rana pirica (Ezo Brown Frog) - Kitan Club Nature Techni Colour Frogs
Rana sakuraii (Stream Brown Frog) - Yujin The Frogs in Colour
Rana tagoi tagoi (Tago's Brown Frog) - Kaiyodo Birdtales
Conraua goliath (Goliath Frog) - Furuta Kaiyodo Red Data Animals

Boophis luteus (Tawny Tree Frog) - Colorata Tropical Rainforest Frogs Box
Mantella aurantiaca (Golden Mantella) - Yujin Frogs Pictorial Book
Mantella baroni (that's not M. madagascariensis as it's labelled, Painted Mantella) - Colorata Tropical Rainforest Frogs Box

Polypedates leucomystax (Striped Tree Frog) - I have to find out the manufacturer :-[
Buergeria japonica (Ryukyu Kajika Frog) - Yujin The Frogs in Colour

I'm sure there are many, many more frogs, I don't even know all new Japanese figures of the last two years... This might be really hard work! :-\

Edit: Hmmm, Johan Scherft has also made a paper model European Tree Frog, Hyla arborea, but as far as I know he hasn't released it for public use (yet), so that probably won't count for the moment. All Central European reptile and amphibian species have been released as life casts by Somso (a manufacturer of anatomical models) but these don't count as toys and their prices range from about â,¬50 to over â,¬200 per piece.

Edit again: I added a few others and left spaces between families for better orientation. The Surinam Toad, Pipa pipa had to go, that one has been made by Agatsuma Entertainment and Yujin. And another edit: I deleted Ceratophrys ornata (I'm still not sure if the Sunshine Aquarium bottle cap figures are C. ornata or C. cranwelli but yesterday I found a company named Caeru Toys http://ameblo.jp/caerutoys/ that make C. ornata... On the other hand I added Hyla cinerea which has been made by Safari Ltd.

Crikey, perhaps we should have separate theads for taxonomic groups after all! I christen this thread the anuran thread!

I updated the list a land made it look a little tidier (there are now empty lines between families). The Surinam Toad, Pipa pipa, had to go, that one has been made at least twice. But still, already 35 for the beginning. :)

So many unique species! You've done a great job here - the standard has been set!  8)

Thanks! :) Yes, it's a little painstaking but it was a good idea to have several multiple threads for different major taxa. That way it's easier to handle them and, well, I know we have / will have plenty of members with very different interests and so the work could be done by different people in different threads. :)
