A similar off-shoot of 'Bug of the Day' this will feature species-specific posts with more detailed information. Like with BOTD, please comment all you want but please do not post images here.

With my recent Ikimon acquisition, let's start with the giant deep sea isopod, Bathynomus giganteus Milne-Edwarrds, 1879.
It's amazing how figures of this species have exploded in the last 4-5 years!

Note: sizes do not include appendages.

must be the light; I couldn't tell them apart if I didn't keep them separated on the shelf LOL

The Japanese spiny lobster, Panulirus japonicus (von Siebold, 1824).

At the time of this initial writing, this is one of five species of Panulirus and one of six members of the family Palinuridae (spiny lobsters) in toy/figure form that are attributable to the species level.

Note: measurements are body length and do not include appendages, unless otherwise stated.
