American White Pelican (Safari Ltd - Wings of the World)
« on: February 02, 2014, 05:22:29 PM »
Walk-around of the Safari Ltd Wings of the World American White Pelican, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos Gmelin, 1789. The figure was apparently retired quite recently, it's not in the 2014 catalogue, anymore (but it may still be in stock at many retailers). Because it's otherwise difficult to measure properly I took two standard measurements for birds: wing chord (45 and 48 mm, respectively) and beak length (24 mm) so the scale is approx. 1:11 - 1:16. A huge seabird (though not the largest Pelecanus species), the American White Pelican may reach a wing span of up to 3 m. Since the global population may be approx. 180,000 with an increasing population trend IUCN considers it "Least Concern".
The human figure (European Father by Miniland Los Amigos del Mundo) is approx. 1:13 to 1:14 scale.

Lovely figure, one of the best figures of this bird currently. Definetly Schleich have done a great work with this replica and it is one of the best birds of its brand from my point of view. I think that it will be a good couple for Papo version  ^-^.

That's true, I've just seen it in the new Schleich catalogue and was puzzled how similar it is (and that Schleich also used the same species)! :)
