Birds
« on: March 05, 2016, 02:30:50 PM »
A rival for the previously unrivaled CollectA 2014 Wild Life Southern Cassowary, here comes the Safari Ltd Wild Safari Wildlife 2016 (Southern) Cassowary, Casuarius casuarius (Linnaeus, 1758); item No. 225429. Very similar in size to the CollectA version, this figure stands 91 mm tall and the hip height is 61 mm. Body length is more difficult to determine but it may be around 100 mm. So the scale may be between 1:13 and 1:17. Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli is approx. 1:16.5 - 1:17 scale.  Unlike CollectA's version, the Safari Ltd figure comes without a base, however, it stands perfectly without much risk of toppling over.  The figure's body is a bit bulkier than the CollectA's but the texture of the fur-like plumage is about the same high quality.  Personally, I like the head of the new Safari figure better since it comes closer to the strange, menacing look of cassowaries.

The Southern Cassowary, second heaviest extant bird, lives in rainforests of Southern New Guinea, small parts of Indonesia, and Queensland (Australia). The species is in decline with an allover population estimated to be between 6,000 and 15,000 mature individuals (with only about 2,500 in Australia) and IUCN lists it as "Vulnerable".

I agree; both nice figures that compliment each other well!

Thanks, Jetoar and Blaine! :) Well, yes, you can never have enough cassowaries (not that there are many of them). It was a must for me to get the Safari Ltd figure, too, but of course I'm happy about that they are in the same scale and can be displayed together. :D

Thanks, Helge! :) It was from Figuren-Spielland but it seems the figure is already sold out again... :-\

I saw we didn't have a bird thread to post this in, so I figured I'd throw one together.

http://www12.plala.or.jp/holyest/inkore/toys/omotya.htm

The Schleich, Safari, and Kaiyodo are all easily recognizable, but there's an articulated(?) Yujin set I've never seen before, and some photos of the rare Takara Breezy Singers Budgerigar (I have a rather crude bootleg of it that was distributed "as seen on tv" a few years back, but the original is a genuinely impressive piece even with the detail lost to moving parts).

Well, they are dinosaurs, so I think there is a thread for birds on the Dino Toy Forum. But since they're still alive, they can be here too. ;) Those are nice looking figures, very adorable! Is this thread also for people to post their bird figures? I can post mine soon.

A little off topic, but when is there going to be a Mythical Animal Toy Forum? I believe thats the only animal figure niche we don't have a forum for.

I could have sworn we already had one but we didn't... well, thanks for opening one! :) I'll move it to the animal groups board. Just know I can't post any photos but I'll have one or two to contribute later on... ;D

nice birds :)

Thanks. My bird menagerie was very limited, but I got more than 50% of these in a lot from Thelordsgym a couple weeks ago. I really wanted the emu - most of the rest of these are available for trade or sale.
I like turtles.

Nice bird figures, BlueKrono also I like the addition of those very cheap Marx knock off "Pterodactyls" because those figures bring me lots of nostalgia.
