Walk-around Megasoma gyas by Sega (Mushi King DX series) which was released in Japan around 2006.

The Sega Mushi King DX series include: Dynastes hercules (yellow (red eyed and revised black eyed version)/grey/dark brown type), Dynastes neptunus, Chalcosoma caucasus (red eyed no revised version), Megasoma gyas, Megasoma acteon, Megasoma mars, Hexarthrius mandibularis (red eyed and revised black eyed version), Dorcus palawanicus, Dorcus alcides, Allomyrina dichotoma (only one with wings in this series. the later revised DX version had no wings!),Procopocoilus giraffa (red eyed and revised black eyed version), Dynastes hyllus and Mesotopus tarandus.

So here is Megasoma gyas one of my favorites.

Wow, what an awesome piece! 8) I'm really envious, this is the first time I've seen a Megasoma gyas figure - so far I've come across M. actaeon, M. elephas, and M. mars but I rather thought this unique looking species never made it into figure form. Thanks to all the beetle enthusiasm in Japan these beetles may not be as obscure over there like they are still in Europe or North America.

There is a smaller version as well, which is actually very nice and deatiled as well. I have one spare (big and small one) of these to trade  ;)
I'll make a pic of the smaller version as well. The small series has a whole bunch of species that go way beyond the usual suspects in Japanese beetle toy models. There are Odontolabis, Prosopocoilus, Eagus, Oryctes and lucanus species. I'll post a group shot next time!

Wow, that's great! :o :) I'll certainly have a few spare DeAgostini beetles if you're interested in those, too, I'll need a few days to check which doubles I have and send you a pm as soon as I know which ones I actually have.

DeAgostini really the best! But I a'm afraid to say that I have the DeAgostini series compleet (Japanese and European serie) :-[
If you have spare f-toy beetles (older series) that would be nice! I can send you an overview with my doubles via PM if you like.

Walk-around Hexarthrius mandibularis sumatranus  (Mushi King DX series) which was released in Japan around 2006.

The Sega Mushi King DX series include: Dynastes hercules (yellow (red eyed and revised black eyed version)/grey/dark brown type), Dynastes neptunus, Chalcosoma caucasus (red eyed no revised version), Megasoma gyas, Megasoma acteon, Megasoma mars, Hexarthrius mandibularis (red eyed and revised black eyed version), Dorcus palawanicus, Dorcus alcides, Allomyrina dichotoma (only one with wings in this series. the later revised DX version had no wings!),Procopocoilus giraffa (red eyed and revised black eyed version), Dynastes hyllus and Mesotopus tarandus.

The model is very detailed and realistic. This model is approximatly 11,7cm long, not including the legs. Scale being 1:1 considering a very large male. The tarsus being a bit of scale and bulky. This may be because they where sold more or less as action toys.

So here is Hexarthrius mandibularis sumatranus.

Sega brought ou two versions of these, one with red eyes and one with black eyes. The later ones being more detailed and having a better finish. Most of the red eyed models have a high gloss varnish that hides lots of detail. On the underside there was the Sega copyright, made in china and the distinctive 4 dots that al the DX and smaller sizes of the series have. I cleared these markings on this figure.

Lucanidae

some more lucanidae, dorcus species.

Dynastidae.

Dynastidae, chalcosoma species.

Sega has been more prolific than I thought; I have 3 sets of smaller figures and still not most of these. I have a set of 10 (or so) from 2008 with cards; two sets of 6 (or so) on wooden bases, and some in flight.

I do not yet have the Kitan fireflies; I only really want one figure of each species, but I have never seen them available.

L. cruciata and L. lateralis by Kitan. They have a button underneath to make a ledlight in their abdomen light up!
They had a plastic bridge for a cord between their antenna, which I cut of to make them look even more realistic.

Are these meant to be male and female of the same species? I have seen them advertised as L. cruciata and L. lateralis. I sent you an email about duplicates :)

Wow, there's a Chiasognathus granti among those Sega beetles! 8) I was close to buy some of those Kitan LED-powered Luciola figures but only found them available as sets of eight or so, so I passed on them...
