Bald Eagle (Safari Ltd - Wings of the world)
« on: December 21, 2014, 11:35:30 PM »
Ok around this time of the year, the Bald Eagles migrate from the south to make there nests in my area of the Mississippi river. To celebrate the occasion, i got myself Safaris Replica of the majestic Bird.

Bald Eagles were once an endangered species thanks to a chemical called DDT, however, some scientists (including one of my uncles) had to prove that it was the DDT that was killing them. So the chemical was banned, and the Eagle has made recovery, However, some are saying that we are seeing fewer eagles come to our region each year. What could be the problem? Well i wish i remembered it from the last time i was at the annual Eagles Day Ceremony, because i will not be able to go to it this year.

Safari did at least three of these: North American Wildlife, Wings of the World, and Incredible Creatures. I think the IC model is the best of the three, but this one is second :)

A wonderful figure, there have been many bald eagle figures but this is one of the best! :) I have both this one and the IC Bald Eagle. I'm not sure which of them I like better but I think the smaller WoW figure has the nicer pose. Hmmm, I'm not sure but aren't the NAW and WoW versions the same figure?

DDT is considered to be one of the main causes for the world wide decline of birds of prey in the 20th Century. In central Europe the Peregrine Falcon nearly went extinct but has very well recovered in the last few decades. And Peregrine Falcons are hemerophiles so since they have recovered they have also returned to the larger cities.

The NAW figure I am referring to above has the wings open so not the same figure.

Ah, okay, I made an image search and I think I found a photo of it now. It's an older figure, I guess?
